My name is Rick Gates and myself and brother have been working for about 5 years on family geneology, and ancestors in the civil war. Our great-grandfather and family were from Columbus Junction, Iowa. His name was Edward McSweeny, and his brother was Daniel. Edward married Ella (Wiard) McSweeny. Old Ed's mother was Kate (maiden unknown) McSweeny, she came from Ireland to the U.S. Ed and Daniel served in the civil war from Louisa County, and were both in Co. "F", 8th Iowa Cavalry. We are interested in any information concerning the McSweeny family that we can get. Also, we would like to find any civil war photos of members of the 8th Iowa Cavalry if there are any available!!
