An acre is 43,560 square feet or 160 square rods; a chain is sixty six feet or twenty two yards (100 links); a furlong is 660 feet or 220 yards (ten chains); a link is 7.92 inches, there are 25 links in a rod and 100 links (or four rods) in a chain; a mile is 5280 feet (eighty chains, 320 rods, or eight furlongs); a perch is 5.5 yards or 16.5 feet, and is also called a rod or a pole; a rood varies from 5.5 yards to eight yards. Rood might also be used to describe an area equal to 1/4 of an acre.
