    1. HELP PLEASE WITH NELSON/HARTLEY families 1858-1887
    2. Hi Everyone, I'd welcome any assistance in locating the above-mentioned families who resided in or around a town called Chequest or Union Township (county unknown) IA circa 1858 - 1887. These were my gr-grandparents and gr-gr-grandparents. I live on the central coast of CA and have never had the opportunity to travel to IA or OH. Back in early November I received a message from Connie Street of Wapello, IA that she thought Chequest had been in Van Buren county. Can anyone help me with more specifics as to the location & history of Chequest? I have been at a dead-end with this part of my family for over 10 years now. I have searched census records in Hardin County (where there is a Union Township) to no avail. Quite by accident I stumbled upon a Union Township that existed at one time in Louisa county, but haven't had any luck searching cemeteries in that area. For more specifics, this is what I know: Alonzo Brown NELSON was born in Twinsburg Township, OH 18 March 1857. He married Mary Elizabeth (or Ellen) HARTLEY who was born in either Chequest or Union Township, IA 1 May 1858. Her parents were Mailend (?) HARTLEY born in OH and Elisabeth WILISPAW(?) born in KY. Alonzo & Mary eventually had six daughters. Four of them were born in Chequest or Union Township, IA during the years 1881 to 1887. They were: Della, Elizabeth Caroline, Rose & Bessey. The family subsequently moved to the Tacoma area of WA where they remained. I would appreciate any suggestions and/or assistance. Thankyou. Sincerely, Stephanie Gunther Jones
