It could only be done by court order, so you would have to have proof enough to satisfy a judge. (I witnessed a woman once (not here) who ranted and raved and threw a tantrum because her grandmother's middle name was not in her birth record. The clerk finally changed it just to get rid of her. The next day the woman realized she had given the clerk the wrong name. Too late, it's in ink and generations down the line with think the middle name is Francis when it was really Elizabeth.)
