Graveside funeral services for 91 year old Leah M. Smith of Muscatine were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 14 at the Stacy-Lewis Funderal Home, Columbus Junction. Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery. Leah died Monday at the Community Health Resources, Muscatine. There was no visitation. A memorial has been established at the funeral home. Leah Margaret Littrel was born September 20, 1907 in Letts to Lloyd and Louelle Jones Littrel. Leah completed grade 1-8 at Strawberry Hill rural school at the age of 10. She was a graduate of Letts High School and Iowa Wesleyan College in Mr. Pleasant earning a B.A. degree in Education. She later graduate{sic} from Northeast Missouri University of Kirksville, Missouri where she earned her Master of Arts Degree in Teaching of Reading. Leah's teaching experience included rural school, grade school and college, both B.A. and M.A. level. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine of Jerusalem. She married Floyd K. Smith June 3, 1933 in Des Moines. Leah is survived by her brother, Maurice Littrel and his wife Bonnie, Muscatine; a sister, Lucille Spates, Fairfield; and several nieces and nephews. Leah was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Leona Schafer and Ruth Reid, three brothers, Howard, Harold and Wayne.
