Skipto DATE: 1/2/2010 at 19:53:01 Surnames: BUSTER,REXROTH,DODDS,SLATER Chanlett George Buster, age 85, of Wapello, Iowa, died Sunday morning, October 17, 1999, at the Burlington Medical Center, Burlington, Iowa. The son of James Martin and Pearl Rexroth Buster, he was born January 17, 1914 at Muscatine, Iowa. He married Ida Belle Dodds on November 21, 1937, at Wapello. He spent his entire life in Grandview and Wapello where he attended schools and graduated from Wapello High School in 1931. He also attended Muscatine Jr. College. He was a Sgt. in the US Army during WWII, serving in the South Pacific with the 452nd Amphibious Division. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Wapello VFW Glenn Allen Post 5166 and the Indian Hills Golf & Country Club. He had operated a service station in Wapello and then was owner of a trucking business for about 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, golf, and especially gardening. Survivors include his wife, Ida Belle; a half sister, Gwen Slater of Los Angeles, California; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Ethel Buster of Wapello. He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-mother, Bess Higley Buster; a sister, Roxye Robinson; and a brother, Dean Buster. The body has been cremated. A memorial ceremony is pending following the hospitalization and improved health of Ida Belle. A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Rescue Unit and the Wapello Community Ambulance.
