Mr. Schlutz was born January 27, 1912, in Muscatine, the son of William and Minnie Dunlap Schlutz. He was a graduate of Wapello High School. He married Esther Ball on May 9, 1934, and she preceded him in death on December 9, 1969. He then married Myrtle Hardman Bartenhagen on January 2, 1971. Survivors include his wife Myrtle; one son, Robert Schlutz of Columbus Junction; one step-son, Carl Bartenhagen of Elkhorn, Nebraska; two step-daughters, Elaine Bartenhagen Grouwinkel Wiele of West Liberty, and Joan Bartenhagen Woods of Grandview; two grandchildren, Kevin Schlutz of Letts and Lynn Schlutz Hagen of West Des Moines; five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Glen Schlutz of Grandview; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife; one daughter Carla Sue; one brother, Earl Schlutz; one step-daughter; and one step-great-grandchild. The funeral service for Dale Schlutz was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 1993, at the Grandview Community Bible Church, with Rev. Darryl Erickson officiating. The organist was Verla Kopf with male quartet music by Darryl Erickson, Darwin Lasiter, Russ Wiley, and Paul Kopf with Sharon Veach as accompanist. The honorary bearers were John Tillie, Leonard Elliott, Leon Thompson, Harold Williams, Wayne Reed, Glenn Beard, Jack Bieri, Bob Weaver, and Gene Retzer. The casket bearers were John Pasch, Marian Barnhart, Tim Whittaker, Randy Power, Charles Jones, and Royce Bonnichsen. The ushers were Darwin Lasiter, Paul Kopf, and Warren Stineman. Burial followed at the Grandview Cemetery. A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Grandview Community Bible Church.
