Joe Garrett Passes Away After Lingering Illness - Funeral at Wapello Friday afternoon. Mrs. Ella Garrett received a telegram yesterday morning announcing the death of her son, Joe, who passed away at a hospital in Kansas City, Mo., where he was taken last Thursday for treatment. He had been afflicted for several months with a cancerous growth on his side and had consulted physicians in Davenport, Burlington and Rochester. Last week he asked to be taken to Kansas City in hope that specialists there might give relief but to no avail. Joe Garrett, son of Ella and Walter Garrett, was born on a farm near Wapello April 30, 1892, where he grew to manhood. He was an industrious young man and for some time was foreman in a garage at Davenport where he was employed until compelled to give up his work because of failing health. Deceased is survived by his father and mother and two brothers, Arthur, of Laredo, Mo., and Robert of Wapello. The remains were brought to Wapello this morning and funeral services will be held from the home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
