Services are Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wapello United Methodist Church. The Rev. Robert Dodder will officiate. Burial will be in the Wapello Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where a memorial has been established. Mr. Hayes was born Nov. 1, 1906 in Louisa County, a son of Joseph and Rozena Wiederrecht Hayes. On Jan. 10, 1931 he was united in marriage to Vera Campbell at Centerville. He had farmed his entire adult life. He attended the University of Iowa for two years. He had retired from the board of directors of the State Bank of Wapello where he had served for 35 years and the Farmers Elevator and Exchange of Wapello where he had served for 32 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wapello. Survivors include his wife; one son, Harlan Hayes, Wapello; one brother, Sumner Hayes, Wapello; one sister, Alvina Woodworth, Grants Pass, Oregon; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
