Born June 24, 1918, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Charles and Orpha Cocaine Nichols. Birdie was previously married to Neal Wolfe. Birdie was Recreational Director at Klein Hospital for ten years. She was a member of the Oak Street Baptist Church of Burlington. She graduated from Morning Sun High School. Survivors include one son, Randall N. Wolfe, Burlington; one daughter Sharlene Birkenstock, Racine, WI; three grandchildren, Steve, Nancy and Michael Birkenstock; 2 great-grandchildren, Ross and Stephanie Birkenstock; one brother, Robert Nichols, Morning Sun; two sisters, Pauline Tonkinson, Yarmouth, and Corinne Owens, Wilcox, AZ. She was loved by several nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her son Wilford and brother Merlin. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 13, 1994 at Lunning Chapel, Burlington. Rev. Gary Walker officiated and interment was in Shinar Cemetery of Pleasant Grove, New London.
