Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, July 8, at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Columbus Junction with Pastor Mark VanderTuig of the Lutheran Church of the Cross, Altoona, officiating. Donna Belle Hughes was the organist and Brian Cummings the vocalist. Casket bearers were Beryl Roundy, F.D. Smylie, Larry Robertson, LeRoy Hughes, Jack Morrison, and Ralph Oak. Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery. Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Born May 31, 1914, in Chicago, Howard was the son of Trygve and Harriet Jacobsen Pedersen. He was a graduate of New Trier High School, Winnetka, Illinois, and Bryant-Stratton Business College, Chicago. He married Jocelyn McRoberts on June 11, 1945, in San Diego, California. Pat enjoyed bridge, reading, contesting, and was a life-long fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Felix (Rebecca) Hoover, River Grove, Illinois; and Carol Pedersen, Altoona; and a sister, Mrs. LaVergne Anderson, Eureka, California. He worked for Stanley Consultants in Muscatine, retiring in 1980. During World War II he served in the Navy. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and had served as a trustee. He had been secretary for the Louisa County Fair Board. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Roger, who was killed in World War II.
