He was born May 18, 1901 at Knoxville, Iowa, the son of William and Gertrude Beebee Bain. He married Hazel Flood September 24, 1939 at Kohoka, Missouri. Mr. Bain was a heavy equipment operator and had worked with the Muscatine County Road Maintenance for 19 years. He was an Army veteran of WW I. He was a member of the Wapello VFW. Funeral service was held at 1:30 P.M. Thursday at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home with Rev. George Yetter officiating. Phyllis McCulley was the organist. Casket bearers were Bill Breuer, Elmer Bergquist, Fred Brown and Dick Murray. Flower attendants were Stella Wilson and Henrietta Bergquist. Burial was in the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by the Wapello VFW. Visitation was held Wednesday evening from 7-8 p.m. at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home. Austin Bain is survived by his wife Hazel, a son Robert and a daughter Doris, a step-son Clifford Welker, Ottumwa, 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, and two sisters Wilbertha Cutkay, Madison, Wisconsin, and Kathleen Fitchner, Billings, Montana.
