Leonard William Gerth, 52, of Milledgeville, Ill., died Monday, Jan 6, 1992, at the Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born April 2, 1939, in Moline, Ill., he was the son of Clifford and Geraldine Swailes Gerth. He Married Karen Craig June 14, 1964 in Mount Pleasant. He was an English and drama teacher at Chadwick High School, retiring in 1987 with 20 years of service. He was a member of the Coleta United Brethren Church, Phi Beta Fraternity, N.E.A., and had received his Masters degree at Northeastern State University in Kirksville, Mo. Survivors include his wife; his father, of Wapello; and one sister, Karen Thornberg of New London. He was preceded in death by his mother. The family received friends Tuesday at the Melvin-Schilling Funeral Home in Milledgeville. The service for Mr. Gerth was 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan 8, at the Melvin-Schilling Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Head officiating. Burial was in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. A memorial has been established for the Coleta United Brethren Church.
