RUTT Funeral services for James A. Rutt, 63, of Columbus Junction, were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, at the United Methodist Church of Columbus Junction. James Rutt died on Saturday, April 18, 1992, at University Hospital, Iowa City after a short illness. There was a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday. A memorial has been established. Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery. Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Rev. Wally Paige officiated the service. Brian Cummings was vocalist, with Donna Belle Hughes as organist, and Kathy Bell on keyboard. Honorary casket bearers were Thomas Huston, Jay Schweitzer, Larry Prior, Dr. Brian Masonholder, James Jewell, F.D. Smylie, and James Parlow. Casket bearers were the Chanute Air Force Base Honor Guard. He was born November 18, 1928, in rural Columbus Junction to Floyd I. and Marie Allen Rutt. He married Thelma Myrsky on April 3, 1954, at McChord Air Force Base, Tacoma, Washington. Mr. Rutt was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force, serving in Viet Nam. He was a member of the Quiet Birdman group, the Viet Nam Vets, the Allen Wright Hanft Post #100 of the American Legion, and the V.F.W. He was a member of the Columbus City Masonic Lodge #107 A.F. & A.M., the Kaaba Shrine and the Davenport Consistory. He was past president of the Iowa State Fair Board and the Louisa County Fair Board, and the Louisa County Salvation Army Board, still serving on those committees. Jim was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Columbus Community Club and was treasurer of the Columbus Medical Clinic and was an active board member. Jim was a Vice President and 20 year employee of the Columbus Junction State Bank. He is survived by his wife, Thelma, Columbus Junction; a daughter, Mrs. Art (Allison) Stoll, Wilton; two sons, Cary, Columbus Junction, and Captain John, Ft. Gordon, Georgia. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, and two brothers, Lavon and Larry, both of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald.
