COLUMBUS JUNCTION- J. Kenneth Houseal, 69, of Columbus Junction died Saturday, April 10, 1993, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home. The Revs. Ralph Draper and Paul Goossin will officiate. Organists will be Donna Belle Hughes and Cecil Schlichting. Casket bearers will be Ed Gobe, Lewis Dallmeyer, Thomas Leyendecker, John Dykstra, Bill Green, Robert Thomas and Butch Morgan. Burial, with military rites by the Allen Wright Hanft Post No. 100 of the American Legion, will be at the Indian Creek Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today with the family being present from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Grove Church and the scholarship fund of the Emma Beckman Chapter No. 445 Order of Eastern Star. Houseal was born Oct. 13, 1923, at Columbus Junction, to Rolla F. and Fannie James Houseal. He was a life resident of the community. He married Lois Schlichting on Sept. 1, 1949, at the Pleasant Grove Church at Columbus Junction. He was a World War II Navy Veteran serving on the U.S.S. Shennango in the Pacific Theater. He was a contractor-carpenter for 26 years in the Columbus Junction area. He had worked as a maintenance operator with the Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1985. He was a deacon and member of the Pleasant Grove Community Church, a member of the Emma Beckman Chapter No. 445 Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Columbus City Masonic Lodge No.104 A.F&A.M., the Davenport Consistory and Kaaba Shrine. He was a member of the Allen Wright Hanft Post No. 100 of the V.F.W. Survivors include, his wife, Lois; two brothers, R.F. "Bud" Houseal of Burlington, and John Houseal of Glendale, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. Bill (Margaret) Morgan of Columbus City; 12 nieces and nephews and 18 great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Richard.
