Born November 8, 1913, in Wapello, he was the son of Sam and Mattie Hartsock Williams. On October 26, 1941, he married Lorena Anderson in Mount Union. Mr. Williams was a lifelong farmer in Louisa County. He was a member of the Columbus City United Methodist Church, a 32nd-degree Mason with the Columbus City Masonic Lodge 107 A.F. and A.M., a member of the KAABA Shrine and Davenport Consistory, the Emma Beckman Chapter 445 Order of the Eastern Star, and the local Odd Fellows. He was a former member of the Louisa County Sheriff’s patrol. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Sheldon Williams and Chan Williams, both of Columbus Junction, and Douglas Williams of New London; two daughters, Alfreda Murphy of Conesville and Nancy Port of Washington; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Clay Williams of Geneseo, Illinois; and one sister, Helen Nelson of Aledo, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Masonic service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday, September 11, at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. The funeral for Mr. Williams was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 12, at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, with Rev. Walden Paige officiating. Casket bearers were Olin Jennings, John Peters, James Van Auken, Ray Boulton, Lee Bobb and Dan Boyd, Honorary casket bearers were Marion Howell, Ed Massey, Max Gipple, and Charlie Dunnahoo. Music was by Donna Belle Hughes. Burial was in the Wapello Cemetery. A memorial has been established. Source: newspaper clipping with handwritten death date of September 10, 1994
