SAMUELS Ray H. Samuels, age 93, formerly of Wapello, died Monday morning, November 18, 1996, at the Morning Sun Care Center. The son of Charles and Anna Bartenhagen Samuels, he was born at Muscatine, Iowa on October 17, 1903. He married Alice Hupp on October 10, 1931 at Nashua, Iowa. She died on March 2, 1971. He had attended school at Otter Creek School and was a farmer throughout his life. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello. He enjoyed baseball, horses, hunting and fishing. Survivors include a daughter, Doris Samuels of Wapello; five sons, Jack Samuels, Keith Samuels, and Lester Samuels, all of Wapello; William Samuels of Muscatine, and Larry Samuels of Sigourney; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Bowers of Winter Haven, Florida and Miriam McConahay of Muscatine; two brothers, Dean Samuels of Wapello and Robert Samuels of Morning Sun; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; four sisters, Helen, Esther, Viola and Vera; and two brothers, Carl and Glen. The family met with friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home. The funeral service for Ray Samuels will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 21, 1996 at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello with Rev. John Ling officiating. Music will be provided by Geneva Samuels as the organist. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery. The casket bearers will include Ralph Smith, Eric Samuels, Richard Kerr, Roger Kerr, John Ferree, and Gary Samuels. A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the United Methodist Church of Wapello or the Wapello Volunteer Fire Department, or the Wapello Youth League.
