She was taken to Muscatine last Thursday, where she was operated on for cancer, but died from the effects of the shock. She was born in Virginia, May 13, 1846, and was 63 years, 2 months and 13 days old at the time of her death. Her maiden name was Teets. She was one of nine children, all of whom are dead with the exception of one sister, Mrs. Mary Simpkins of Muscatine, and one brother, H. J. Teets of Grandview. She was the mother of seven children, four sons and three daughters - Frank, Charles, Jake and Albert, all residing near Toolsboro, and Mrs. Emma Cooper of Muscatine, Mrs. Josie Powell, near Hogback, and Mrs. Dora Tharp of Grandview. She came with her family to Iowa about 55 years ago and resided in this vicinity, at Grandview, Toolesboro and Wapello practically all her life since leaving her old Virginia home. The funeral occured at Toolesboro, her old home, yesterday at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. Newsom of Wapello. Interment in the Parsons Cemetery. Source: LCHS scrapbook
