Riverside, Iowa - Lamont John Duwa, 79, Riverside, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, Services are 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Riverside. The Rev. Lou Leonhardt will officiate. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetary with miliary rites conducted by the Riverside Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6414. Pallbearers are his grandchildren, Christine Schreiber, Carrie Mallory, Greg Schreiber, Bill Duwa, Daniel Roberts, Emily Sexton, Kate Duwa, Lisa Roberts and Elizabeth Sexton. After the burial, a luncheon will be held at the church. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the Sorden-Lewis Funeral Home, Riverside. A memorial fund has been established. Mr. Duwa was born March 4, 1923, in Riverside, the son of Albert and Zetta Waldschmidt Duwa. He married Frances O'Conner June 4, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Riverside. He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School, Riverside, in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from Jan. 8, 1943, to Oct. 8, 1945. He was stationed in England with the 8th Air Force during World War II. After he was discharged from the military, he started farming south of Riverside. He was a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6414 in Riverside. He held the positions of district commander, district inspector, Post commander and Post quartermaster. He recently earned the Department All State Commander and Quartermaster Award. He participated wi the military funeral detail for the Post. He enjoyed his family, granchildren and attended events involving his grandchildren. His hobbies included woodworking, playing cards and visiting with friends. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael Duwa and Thomas Duwa and wife Sandra; four daughters, Sandra Duwa Mallory and husband Jim, Mary Jo Duwa Roberts, Kathrine Duwa Schreiber and husband Robert, Carol Duwa Sexton and husband Robert; grandchildren, Kate Duwa, Bill Duwa, and wife Karla, Carrie Mallory, Daniel and Lisa Roberts, Greg Schreiber and wife Amuy, Christine Schreiber, Elizabeth and Emily Sexton; and four brothers, Melvin Duwa and wife Irene, Robert Duwa and wife Mary, Edward Duwa and wife Velma and twin brother, Leroy Duwa and wife Lucille. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Bernice, Mildred and Eulalia.
