Lewis, 82, died here Saturday at the Wapello Nursing Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Wapello Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home. The son of William and Emma Robertson Lewis, he was born Nov. 18, 1889, in Oakville. He was a life resident of the Wapello area. His marriage to Mabel Swan took place Oct. 30, 1918 in Burlington. Mr. Lewis had worked as a mechanic at Tillmann Motors of Wapello, was the city marshall for six years, had been the Louisa County Sheriff for 14 years and had worked as a guard and fireman at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Burlington. He was past chief of the Wapello Volunteer Fire Department and was a 50-year member of the Knights of Pythias. Mr. Lewis was of the Methodist faith. Survivors include his wife; one son, Maurice Bud Lewis, Wapello; one daughter, Lola Peg Johnston of Bettendorf; four granddaughters; three (great)grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred Courtney of Grandview. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
