She was the daughter of Hamilton and Marie Bridges Downs, and was born March 16, 1920, at Wapello. She married William T. Gerdes June 21, 1945, in Burlington. Mrs. Gerdes was a registered nurse and was part-owner of Benson True Value Lumber & Hardware Co. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist church and its Womens Missionary Fellowship and of Jane Delano Assn. She was a former Des Moines 4-H leader. Surviving: The husband; son William T., Jr., Burlington; two daughters, Sue Carson, Boulder, Colo., and Becky Jo Guenther, Ft. Madison; two sisters, Donna Robertson, Grandview, and Lila Kemp, Wapello; and two grandchildren. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oak Street Baptist church, the Rev. B.
