ROBERT STANTON BELL Dr. Robert Stanton Bell, 72, of 116 Orchard Place, died at 3:10 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Burlington Medical Center. He was born Sept. 26, 1913, in Keokuk County, to Frank and Bertha Jo Wickersham Bell. He married Bessie Evelyn Soucek on July 26, 1938, in Minneapolis, Minn. Dr. Bell graduated from medical school at the University of Iowa in 1939 followed by a year of internship at St. Mary Hospital in Madison, Wis. He was on active duty as a medical officer in the Army Air Corps from July 1940 to August 1945. After World War II, he returned to Iowa City for a residency in radiology. He came to Burlington in December 1948 to be the first Board Certified Radiologist of Mercy and Burlington Hospitals and practiced until he retired from the Radiology Department of Burlington Medical Center in 1983. Dr. Bell was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees during the time the sanctuary was extensively remodeled and the stained glass window behind the altar uncovered. He was involved in community affairs including Burlington Community School Board, Area 16 Community College Board, City Plan Commission, Board of Adjustment, Past President of Des Moines County Medical Society and Hospital Staff, chairman of the Building and Planning Committee of Burlington Medical Center during the last major building program. Past president of Iowa Radiologic Society, member of Rocky Mountain Radiology Society and member of American College of Radiology. He was also a member of the board of United Way. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Barbara (Samuel) Bell-Abt, Paris, France, Mrs. Karen (Fred) Horner, Waco, Texas, and Mrs. Deborah (Mark) Blaedel, DeRidder, La.; two sons, Robert C., Betterdorf, and Thomas G., Long Beach, N.Y.; one brother, John, Black Mountain, N.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Foster, Sheffield, Mrs. Frances Mezger, Scottsdale, Ariz., Mrs. Margaret (Raymond) Koester, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and three grandchildren. Services for Dr. Bell will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Church with the Rev. Robert Dodder officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rock Creek Cemetery near Ollie.
