About 20 years ago our board of supervisors, in its infinite wisdom, decided there was no reason people would want to look at old newspapers and carted the oldest ones to the dump. We only have extant newspapers back to about 1880. We do however have cemetery listings, land records, wills and tax records that could be checked.
