In keeping with the IaGenWeb policy of free lookups, some of our LCGS members do "Limited" lookups. For me, this translates into Lookups from a dozen or more books that I own that I can look up quickly without leaving my home or for pre-existing material I have on my computer. Due to crippling arthritis I do not do research that takes me outside my home unless I am already making a trip for some necessity. Some of our members have done more than I do , and unfortunately, they are getting some rather unreasonable requests with folks taking advantage of their generosity. These members have jobs, homes, and families that require their time so they can't spend many hours on any one individual. They also do not have unlimited resources to provide the gas, photocopying, postage and other related expenses. Again, I beseech you not to EXPECT extensive research "free" at someone else's expense. These lookups should not and do not necessarily include trips to libraries and courthouses free. If they are making the trip anyway for other purposes they may not charge for their time, but if it entails a special trip, then I suggest you send them a S.A.S.E. with an offer to pay for extensive research. I believe the Louisa County Genealogical Society has a policy of doing research free for "Members". While this list is not specifically for members and small favors are done for everyone, if you are not a member, there may be a small fee for research that is negotiated privately among individuals. This may be a non profit operation, but we do not have unlimited resources to satisfy everyone's request. Everyone has weeks of backlogged requests to handle, so please remember you are only one of many making demands on their time. Please review the Louisa County Genealogical Society Policy before making any extensive requests for assistance in the future. Rootsweb does allow Genealogical Societies to list their books for sale on line. This is the one exception for selling or advertising. Our folks are good hearted but they do have limitations. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialcgs/membersh.htm Thank you. Norma Jennings Listowner
