    3. Dear Jim and LC list, Marriage records have been kept in the individual Iowa counties since their organization. The first marriage book in Louisa County begins in 1837, when Louisa County was part of the Territory of Wisconsin and possibly Des Moines County. This is the book that contains the marriage of your Abraham Sargent, age 20, and Nancy Eleanor Adams, age 19. The book is in the custody of the Louisa County Recorder, 117 S Main, Wapello, IA 52653. A certified copy is from $6 to $10, I think, and you would write to Jean Brauns, Louisa County Recorder, for the certification. If you would be satisfied with a photocopy, I can go over and get one made for, I think, 50 cents, but it would not be certified. The 1850 Louisa County Census shows Abraham and Nancy and children in Grandview Township.
