Jill, The only Hartman I found in 1897, was "Mr. Hartman, died July 24, 1897. Wapello Republican, July 29, 1897. The obit reads as follows: "BARD". Two of our homes are in the dark gloom of death. Old Mr. Hartman died at his home near here last Saturday evening. He was struck speechless on Wednesday by paralysis and remained so until death relieved him. He has lived here about 30 years and leaves quite a number of children, three of whom were at his bedside when he died. Services were held in the German church at this place by Rev. Zimmerman of Wapello, after which his remains were laid to rest in the Wapello cemetary." I did not locate anything for Hannah. There was no information on either one in the Portrait and Biographical Album, 1889. If you want the microfilm copy, send an SASE to Janice Hoehle, P. O. Box 103, Wapello, IA 52653. -
