Subject: [IAGEN-L] THE CENSUS SITUATION Resent-Date: Sun, 9 Apr 2000 19:10:37 -0700 (PDT) Resent-From: IAGEN-L@rootsweb.com Date: Sun, 09 Apr 2000 19:10:08 -0700 From: Richard Harrison <ArtDept@compuserve.com> Organization: Art Department To: IAGEN-L@rootsweb.com Our Census Project problems started with differences of opinion between Linda Lewis and Kay Mason when they were both involved with the original census project. Kay moved or duplicated the files and suddenly there were two projects--The USGenWeb Census Project and the USGenWeb Archives Census Project. Kay Mason disappeared and Ron Eason became in charge of one of the projects. Linda Lewis remains in charge of the other. The board should have addressed the problem immediately, but did not--at least not effectively. Both projects claim to be the real one. There are strong personalities involved on each side. Millions of words have been written containing thousands of accusations from both sides and from the chronically dissatisfied who love to say "let's you and him fight." Last year there were discussions between the two sides that broke off and reecently Tim and the board began addressing the problem. Last week National Coordinator Tim Stowell took bold action and did something so that all the links that previously took people to USGenWeb Census Project pages now take them to USGenWeb Archives Census Project instead. Both sets of pages have existed for some time. Nothing has been added. The board is about to vote on whether or not to override Tim's administrative action. They will then move on to seating a representative from the USGenWeb Census Project and to resolving this wasteful and confusing situation. Your support of their efforts and your opinions about what should be done are important.
