Lelia McGill was born Aug. 23, 1890 at Grandview, Iowa, and died Apr. 26, 1910, at her home at Anoka, Minn., aged 11 years 8 months and 3 days. She grew to young womanhood in the vicinity of Grandview and was loved and respected by all who knew her. In disposition Lelia was a little "home body" caring little for society, choosing rather to use her time and energy in showing a cheerful, willing helpfulness to those about her, thereby endearing herself to the home circle in a way which will make her so sadly missed by those to whom she was near and dear. She was united in marriage to Guy Kallenberger, June 10, 1900. Besides her husband she leaves a little babe one month old, her father, mother, two sisters and one brother to mourn her early, and it seems to us, her untimely death. But God knoweth best, and to Him in whom she put her trust, she has gone. "Tho' we mourn her here with sorrow And with hearts all filled with pain, On some golden, glad tomorrow, We shall greet her once again. The beautiful floral offerings and large concourse of friends who followed her to her last resting place bore evidence of the esteem in which she was held in the community. The funeral occurred at the Methodist church in Grandview April 29th, conducted by J.R. Hammond. Interment in the Grandview cemetery.

GRASHAM 1863-1910 <http://iagenweb.org/boards/louisa/obituaries/index.cgi?rev=646083> AUTHOR: Judy Kelley DATE: 6/30/2017 at 18:59:38 Surnames: GRASHAM,BROMLEY PROMINENT LOUISA COUNTY MAN DEAD Lincoln S. Grasham Succumbed Yesterday - Was 47 Years of Age at the time of His Death. Wapello, Ia., Sept. 6. - Lincoln S. Grasham, one of the prominent farmers of this vicinity, died on Monday, Sept. 5, 1910, after an illness of about two weeks, with an attack of typhoid fever. Mr. Grasham was born in Port Louisa township, Louisa county, June 13, 1863, and was aged 47 years, 2 months and 22 days. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Grasham, who died March 13, 1909, a pioneer of this state, and an old resident of this county; and the family is well-known, both in Wapello and in the surrounding country. The elder Mr. Grasham was a sturdy pioneer of the class which has done much towards making our state what it now is, rearing his family to become good and industrious citizens; and his sons have followed in his footsteps. This son, Lincoln, especially, had lived his life in the same manner as his father. When old age compelled the elder Mr. Grasham to give up his work, Lincoln took the heavier duties from his shoulders and took upon himself the farm work and the care of his father. The old homestead where the family was reared has been his home for his entire life; and the duties of son, husband and father he has fulfilled simply and faithfully. Though no aspirant for honors of any kind, he was of a genial and friendly disposition, and gained friends in all places and classes. Many citizens of this county and surrounding counties, aside from his immediate neighbors, will mourn the loss of so warm-hearted and generous a man. Mr. Grasham was married in 1898 to Mrs. Sadie Bromley, who survives him. He also leaves surviving him, one daughter, Nola, and a step-daughter, Georgianna Bromley, and a stepson, Gird Bromley, of Muscatine. Several brothers and sisters also remain to mourn his loss, among whom are Frank, of this city, and George, of near Wapello, and John Grasham of Muscatine. The funeral services will be held at the home in Port Louisa township, near Wapello, on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 7, at 2 o'clock, and will be in charge of the Wapello Lodge, I.O.O.F., of which he was a member. Rev. W.J. Gerlach, pastor of the Presbyterian church of Wapello, will officiate at the services. Source: Newspaper clipping.

Shew, an old and respected citizen living three and one-half miles north of Wapello, met death in a peculiar manner last evening while milking a cow. On account of the great amount of farm work, the chores were not done until a late hour between 8 and 9 o'clock he was milking a cow in the barn, when his wife, who was on the outside, heard a peculiar noise. She rushed to her husband's side t find him lying on the barn floor with his neck dislocated. Death was almost instantaneous. Mrs. Shew does not know whether her husband was kicked by the cow and his neck broken, or whether he had an attack of heart failure and in falling dislocated his neck. Mr. Shew was an old man, who has lived near this place for years. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Wapello and highly respected by all who knew him. The funeral will take place Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. M. E. Reusch of Wapello conducting the services. The Masonic fraternity will assist at the funeral. 1. [IALOUISA] LESTER Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as "Grandmother LESTER" which was taken in Mankato, MN in the early 1900's. A note on the back says "taken at Mankato when we and Grace & Hugo lived in the Union Block on Front Street". I believe that Grace & Hugo are Grace LESTER and Hugo BERG and that this is either Grace's Mother? or her Grandmother (Father's Mother). The woman in the photograph appears to be in her 60's or 70's at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: Nettie Grace LESTER was born 7 Mar 1890 in Louisa, IA, the daughter of William Aluson LESTER (b. 16 Apr 1853 in Schenectady, NY – d. 10 Sept 1909 in Blue Earth Co. MN the son of Alanson LESTER and Mary ROBBINS) and Viola Grace LOCKWOOD (1855-1939). Grace was one of 5 children born to this couple including, Faith U.; John Francis; Nettie Grace; William A.; and James R. LESTER, all born between 1883 and 1896. Records indicate that Mrs. Grace LESTER (the Mother) lived at 307 ½ S. Front Street Apt #2 at some point in time, listing her occupation as Nurse. Grace (the daughter) married Hugo BERG in Mankato or Blue Earth, MN on 7 Nov 1911. Grace died Nov 1973 in Indianola, IA. Census records provide the following details: 1910 census of Mankato, MN: W. A. LESTER, age 55, a widow, 5 children/3 living, born IA, parents born Canada/IN Faith W. LESTER, dau, age 27, born IA, parents born NY/IA, a Dressmaker N. C.E. Nagley, a merchant of Grandview, was found dead in his bed in his room over the store at 8 o'clock Friday evening by Frank Lamansky, a friend. Nagley's death, which was due to heart failure according to the decision of the coroner's inquest held Saturday morning by Coroner Collins of Letts, is believed to be indirectly at least, due as the result of a run for a train made by the local merchant last Thursday. Nagley, who has been a sufferer from heart trouble for some time, was in Davenport on Thursday on business. Returning home he was compelled to make a hard run to catch his train. Friday morning he was taken suddenly ill and the physician who was called ascribed his illness to his exertion of the day before. He was ordered to remain in his room and rest. Friday evening about 7 o'clock when Clyde Kent, a clerk in the store, visited his employer the latter declared he was much better and intended coming down stairs to the store during the evening. An hour later Lamansky went to the room and found Nagley dead. An order for goods written after Kent left the room was found on his desk. Mr. Nagley had been in business in Grandview only since last spring. He has two brothers surviving, one living in Chicago and the other in Quincy Source: Newspaper clipping with handwritten date of Oct. 2, 1914
