NICHOLAS LANG DIES AT HOME THIS NOON. Survived By Husband, Seven Children, One Sister in Muscatine, Two Brothers in Grandview. Mrs. Nicholas Lang, one of the best known women in the vicinity of Wilton, aged 67 years, passed away at her home five miles southwest of that place this noon at 12:20 o'clock after a short illness. She had been suffering from heart trouble but her condition was not thought serious and her sudden death will be received with great sorrow by her many friends in this county. Her husband is one of the early pioneers of this county, having lived here since 1848, and is reputed to be one of the wealthiest men in the county. Mrs. Lang was born at Grandview, Ia., about 67 years ago, and was united in marriage at that place to Mr. Lang. In 1862 they removed to near Wilton, where they have since resided. She is survived by her husband and seven children, Will Lang, cashier of the Wilton Savings bank, Mrs. W. J. Miller, of Wilton, Mrs. Rolla Herr, of near Wilton, Henry, at Grandview, Ben, Louis and George at home. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Christopher Werner, residing at 1019 Iowa avenue, Muscatine, Ia., and two brothers, Louis and Will Lieberknecht, of Grandview. His death was due to organic heart disease and followed an illness extending over a period of several months. His condition was not considered serious of late, however, and his sudden demise was very unexpected. The announcement of the death was received as a shock by those with whom he had been closely associationin late years. Mr. Weaver was born in Hampton county, pa.; February 18, 1828, and came to Muscatine county more than fifty years ago. He settled on a farm near Letts and remained there until nine years ago, when he removed to the town. Mr. Weaver was a survivor of the Civil war, having served four years during the struggle for secession. Mr. Weaver is survived by his wife, one son, Dr. A.J. Weaver, a prominent physician of Muscatine, and four daughters, Martha Stretch, of Oregon; Mrs. Homer Vincent, of Letts; Mrs. John Sipe, of Chicago, and Mrs. Fannie Messick, of Kansas. Pantel passed away at her home in Grandview, Monday, December 21, 1914. Mrs. Pantel was born June 6, 1851, in Griedalwald, Switzerland, thus she was aged 63 years, 6 months and 15 days at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Anna and Fred Blauer. She came to America in 1862 with her parents and settled in Grandview. She was married at the parental home to Chas. Pantel, Dec. 9, 1875. To this union were born three children, Steve residing five miles south of Grandview; Pearl, at home and Bertha, who preceded her in death. Besides the two children left to mourn her loss are her husband, one brother and four sisters. Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Mrs. Pantel was converted under Father Judish and was a faithful member of the Congregational church. The funeral services were held from the Congregational church conducted by Rev. M.B. Washington. Mrs. Higgenbottom Died Sunday After Long Illness The many friends of Mrs. Elmer Higginbottom, nee Estella Butler, were deeply grieved to hear of her sudden death at Dubuque, Sunday, Dec. 20, after an operation in a hospital in that city. Mrs. H. had been in poor health for several months and had been operated upon several times for bowel trouble. For several months she had been under the care of physicians and specialists, but her trouble seemed to be beyond human skill to aid. The announcement of her death was a great shock to her family and friends and came as a result of an operation. Her mother was with her at the time of her death. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.I. Butler of this city, and was born in Cairo, Iowa, April 27, 1883, thus being 31 years, 7 months and 23 days of age at the time of her demise. She lived here for several years with her parents before her marriage to Elmer Higginbottom and for some time afterwards, Mr. Higginbottom being proprietor of a tonsorial parlor here. From this place they moved to Cedar Rapids and later to Washington, Iowa. Mrs. Higginbottom's death is mourned by a large circle of friends besides the surviving relatives, who are: Her husband, her parents, one brother, Drury, who has been in Illinois, and one sister, Mrs. Louis Otto, of this vicinity. The funeral services were held yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, Dec. 23, at 2 o'clock, from the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. C.W. Sydman. Interment was made in the Wapello cemetery.

"Mike" Hicklin, who died July 4, 1986, were conducted at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello at 3 p.m. Monday, July 7. Chaplain Richard Gilbert officiated. Phyllis McCulley was organist. Honorary pallbearers were W.O. Weaver, Howard Winder, Gordon Stone, Casey Conavan, E.A. Hicklin and Wm. L. Matthews. Mr. Hicklin was born August 28, 1908 to Edwin and Millicent Reichley Hicklin in Wapello, Iowa. He attended Wapello Public Schools, the University of Iowa, graduated from Drake University Law School in 1933, and married Cleora Jackson in 1933. Mr. Hicklin served in the Navy in World War II. He served in the Iowa Legislature as Representative from Louisa County for four terms and one special session. A law practicioner in Wapello for 17 years, he moved to Des Moines where he was secretary-treasurer for the Iowa Railway Committee until he retired in 1971 moving back to Wapello where he served as Zoning Administrator for the city of Wapello, Louisa County Mental Health Referee and Inheritance Tax Appraiser. Mr. Hicklin was a member of the Iowa State Bar Association, Louisa County Bar Associaton, Iowa Pioneer Lawmakers, Kaaba Shrine, Davenport Consistory KCCH, Wapello Lodge No. 5 A.F. & A.M., and American Legion. He is pre deceased by his parents, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife Cleora; his son Thomas R. of Denver, Colorado; his daughter Mary Margaret Morris of Des Moines; two granddaughters, Cortney and Amanda; and one grandson, James. He is also survived by four sisters, Millicent Winter, Wapello, Mary Knobbe, Des Moines, Jean Winter, Wapello, and Catherine Romy of Indianapolis, Ind. The Rev L L Meyers officiated with casket bearers including nephews Harvey Sprinkle, Roy Furgason, Roy Littell, Ed Mahrt, Harold Williams and Frank Lueck. Interment was in the Mondovi Cemetery. Her husband preceded her in death in September 1946. Mrs Sprinkle was a faithful member of the Evangelical church and vitally interested in all its activities. She is survived by one sister, Mrs Mary Furgason of Reardan and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 20, at the Evangelical church, Rev L L Myers officiating, assisted by Rev M E Hunsburger of Spokane. Pall bearers were Chris Lucht, Harvey Sprinkle, Ed Mahrt, Harold Williams, all nephews of the deceased. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery, near Mondovi. Very simple. What are you doing with all your clippings? if you want to help Louisa County, that would be great, but Lee County obits need to be online, too.     3. Hi Connie, What does this entail? Down the line I will have a little time I could help but not for a few weeks yet. How do you imput the obits. And also transfer them to the web. Need to know what program you use for this and what format you use. Have been clipping 30 years of obituaries from the Daily Gate City newspaper for our society. Frank Smice, who had been a sufferer for several months with tuberculosis of the lungs, passed away at his home in Toolesboro, Friday, May 19(handwritten: 1911). Deceased was born in Toolesboro about forty-five years ago where he spent his childhood days. He moved with his parents to Wapello several years ago making their home in the south part of town. Later the family moved to Grandview and from there back to the old home in Toolesboro. He is survived by his father, John Smice, of Toolesboro, two sisters and four brothers, the mother having preceded him in death. The funeral services were held from the M.E. church in Toolesboro Saturday afternoon at three o'clock, conducted by Rev. A.S. Covert, of Oakville. Interment in the Parsons cemetery. Source: LCHS

His father died 8 years ago. Frank was of a bright and affectionate disposition and a great comfort to his mother. He was a favorite among his school mates and associates and loved and esteemed by those who knew him. He leaves mother, three brothers and two sisters, his school mates and a host of friends to mourn his early departure. At her home on West Front street at 5:30 o'clock this morning, occurred the death of Mrs. Rilly Zaehringer. Mrs. Zaehringer had been seriously ill for the past week from superlative inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth. Her condition became more and more serious until blood poison set in, to which her death is due. Mrs. Zaehringer is between 40 and 50 years of age and was born at Port Louisa. She is the wife of John Zaehringer, who with two sons, LeRoy and Clarence, survive her, besides other relatives. The funeral will be held from Greenwood chapel on Monday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev.
