Riley, age 43, of Mediapolis, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, April 26, 1994 at the Burlington Medical Center. Mrs. Riley was a first grade teacher at the Wapello Elementary School. She is survived by her husband, Rick; three daughters, Heather of West Burlington, Melissa and Kimberly at home; her mother, Catherine Deiling of Mediapolis; and an aunt, Margueite Lambrakis of Mediapolis. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 1994 at The St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Dodgeville, with Father William Stratman and Father Phil Lawler officiating. Burial will follow at the Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis. The family will meet friends Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and then a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. with family meeting friends following until 9:00 p.m. at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home at Mediapolis. Bill Young officiating. Mrs. Burdine died Sunday, October 24, 1993 at a hospital in Baytown, Texas. She was 82 years old. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 27, 1993 at Navarre Chapel. Dr. Richard Kleiman officiated. She was born December 15, 1910 in Fairbault, Minnesota. At age two, after the death of her mother, she was raised in Wapello, Iowa by her grandmother, Maggie Davis, her uncle, William Davis, and her aunt, Mary Davis Fraser. She was active in the Presbyterian Church and Sunday school and graduated from Wapello High School in 1928. She served 10 years as Deputy County Auditor for Louisa County. In 1958, she married Corwin G. Burdine and they celebrated 55 years of marriage in 1993. She has resided in Baytown, Texas since 1976 where she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry C. Davis; mother, Clara Sellers Davis; sisters, Mabel Peterson of Denver, Colorado, Ruth Nelson of Fairbault, Minnesota and brothers, Oscar Davis of Coal Valley, Illinois and William Davis of Athens, Illinois. She is survived by her husband, Corwin G. Burdine and her daughter, Corena McKenzie and Ed McKenzie of Baytown, Texas. Her grandchildren; Mary and Kelly Casey of Austin, Texas, and Mark McKenzie of Lake Charles, LA. Arrangements are under the direction of Dudgeon McCulley Funeral Home. Source – newspaper clipping

She graduated from Huron School in 1951. She was her husband’s partner in several business ventures in Burlington, most recently the T & T Truck Wash and T & T Consignment. At the time of her death, she and her husband owned and operated Suds Laundromat in Surprise, Ariz. Survivors include her husband; two children, Kirk Thompson of Burlington, and Corinne Hoel of West Burlington; two sisters, Eleanor McKern of Council Bluffs and Wanda Lee of Burlington; two brothers, Roland Gerst of Mediapolis and Dennis Gerst of Oakville; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Knottnerus was a salesperson at the Beverage Mart in Gulfport, Ill. She enjoyed playing bingo. She was a Winfield High School graduate. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Latoska (LuAnn) Knottnerus and Katrina M. Knottnerus, both of Gulfport, Ill.; one son, David G. Knottnerus of Leonore, Ill.; her parents of Winfield; three grandchildren; a brother, Gordon “Bud” Bennett of Clinton; and a sister, June Faulker of Hot Springs, Ark. She was preceded in death by a son and her maternal and paternal grandparents. The funeral for Mrs. Knottnerus was at 7 p.m. Sunday at Sederwall Chapel, Biggsville, Ill., conducted by Mark Jagnow. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, and one brother. DEMISE DUE TO APPENDICITIS Funeral Services Will Be Held From the M.E. Church Friday at 2 o'clock Conducted by Rev. E. C. Brooks. Our community was shocked and pained yesterday to learn of the death of Floyd Graham, which occurred at the hospital in Burlington, Wednesday morning at four o'clock. Floyd was operated on at the University hospital in Iowa City, last spring for appendicitis and never fully recovered though even his near relatives and friends did not realize the severity of his disease. He was taken suddenly ill Monday evening after returing home from the Princess theatre, where he was employed as machine operator. Doctors were immediately summonded and everything possible was done by physicians and relatives to relieve the pain, but to no avail. On Tuesday evening at 9:30 he was removed to the Burlington hospital, but sank rapidly and passed away the next morning at 4:10. The remains were brought to his late home in Wapello, yesterday afternoon. Floyd Graham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Graham, was born on a farm near Wapello, September 9th, 1885, and was aged at the time of his death 27 years, 2 months and 1 day. He moved to Wapello with his parents several years ago and was for some time employed in the Archibald panitorium. For the past several months he has been operating the moving picture machine in the Princess theatre. He was popular among a large circle of friends and a general favorite in the home. His death is mourned by all who knew him. His parents, brothers and sisters have the heartfelt sympathy all in their bereavement. The funeral services will be.......... To this union were born four children, Otto, of Grandview, Ia.; Mrs. Harley Krahl, of Letts, Ia.; Mrs. Orland Kemp, of Grandview and Mrs. Ollie Huffman, of Muscatine, Iowa, all of whom still survive. Aside from his children he is survived by his wife, three grandchildren and a nephew in this county. He had been confirmed in the Lutheran church and received in full fellowship with that church at the age of fourteen years. He was always a kind and devoted father and husband and a generous neighbor. The funeral was held at the home Sabbath afternoon conducted by Rev. J. H. Boozer. He died April 3, 1912 aged 36 years, four months and 8 days. He was united in marriage to Bertha Cocklin November 11, 1897. To this union was born two children, Vera H. and Merle. He leaves to mourn his early departure a widow, two children, one brother, W.H. Krahl, of Letts, Iowa, two sisters, Elizabeth and Mrs. J.J. Beik, both of Grandview and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Krahl had been afflicted for more than eleven years. For the past few years he was confined to the house, helpless, but patient and hopeful. It was the privilege of the writer to see and converse with him frequently on the subject of salvation and he expressed himself as having made the preparation and being ready for the call. Death Arrives Unexpectedly to Frank Buell, Residing on Island - Mother Prostrated. Joyous and happy one week ago, entering into the games of his school mates with all the abandon of youth but a few days since, Frank Buell, a boy of twelve years of age, residing with his mother, Mrs. Armeda Buell on Muscatine Island, lies dead at his home, death coming yesterday. Typhoid fever, with which he was seized last week, caused his demise. The young lad did not complain of feeling unwell until about a week ago when he was suddenly overcome with the virulent disease. The fever made such inroads into the little body that it was unable to withstand its progress, passing away most unexpectedly yesterday. The shock of the death prostrated the mother and she herself was in a serious condition for a while, although today she is considerably improved. His mother, two sisters and three half-brothers survive him. In respect of the deceased lad, the Hopewell school, which he attended, will be closed for the remainder of the week until after the funeral which will be closed for the remainder of the week until after the funeral, which will be held from the German Lutheran church at Grandview Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The body will be placed beside the grave of his father, Lee Buell, who met death in a railroad accident a number of years ago. Frank Buell took part in a Hallowe'en program given at the school.
