Billy Butler, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene after his car left Louisa County G-40 about four miles north of Fredonia about 7 a.m., according to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Department. Butler, 41, Route 6, Box 591, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 1990, of injuries resulting in auto accident. Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 3, 1990, at 1:30 p.m. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Corwin will officiate. Pat Dilts will be organist. Pallbearers will be Bill Wroe, Dan Yates, Jack Cozad, Scott Butler, John Puckett, Gary Brown and Rich Olinger. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Brown, Jr., Arthur Sprague and Wes Wilkey. Burial will be at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 2, 1990, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where a memorial has been established. Mr. Butler was born Nov. 20, 1948, in Chicago, Ill., a son of Ralph and Betty Jean Hiebner Butler. He had worked at IBP for four years. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. William (Shannon) Wroe, of Route 6, Muscatine; and Kim Brown, of Muscatine; and an aunt, Alice Tobias, of Davenport. He became ill with cancer in June, 1991, and died February 9, 1992, in Green Valley, Arizona, at the age of 72 years, four months and 27 days. He married Jeannette J. Barrick on December 10, 1938. He then married Berta Doze on July 5, 1975, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He farmed in Louisa County for 21 years. He worked for Farm Bureau Insurance Company as a Crop/Hail Supervisor in southeast Iowa for approximately 30 years. He moved from Coralville, to Green Valley, Arizona, in September, 1991. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wapello, and an affiliate member of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley. Al enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and liked to travel. He was preceded in death by his parents. His survivors include his wife, Berta Humphrey, Green Valley; four sons, Mike Humphrey and wife, Carolyn, Baldwin City, Kansas, Gary Humphrey and wife, Linda, Omaha, Nebraska, Larry Doze and wife, Angela, Rockford, Illinois, and Danny Doze and wife, Patty, Orlando, Florida; three sisters, Laurel Barrick and husband, Lester, Wapello, Frances Johnson, Monterey Park, California, and Shirley Hatton and husband, Walter, Winfield; brother Loren Humphrey and wife, Audrey, Burlington; mother-in-law, Gladys Moore, Humeston; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Funeral Services were held Friday morning, February 14, at the Hutchinson Funeral Home in Humeston, with Rev. Clifford Haider officiating. She was born April 18, 1893 in rural Mediapolis, a daughter of Joseph and Flora Piper Miller. On Jan. 20, 1916 she married Art Brockway in Burlington. He died Oct. 24, 1979. She was a member of the Jefferson Township Circle and a charter member of the Goodwill Club. Survivors include a son, Ronald of Wapello; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Anthony Kirk, 16, Route 3, Columbus Junction, was pronounced dead at University Hospitals in Iowa City, after the accident which occurred Saturday at 7:15 p.m. while he was driving alone southbound on Johnson County Road X14 about one and a half miles south of Lone Tree. Kirk tried to pass a vehicle driven by Neil Forbes, 21, Route 2, Lone Tree, when he hit Forbes’ vehicle, lost control of his car, went into the ditch and hit a utility pole, according to Iowa State Patrol reports. The car came to rest on its top. Forbes was not treated for injuries, according to the patrol’s records. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Conesville Cemetery. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Pamela Saturnia. Interment was at Columbus City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital and the American Diabetes Foundation. Mr. Orr was born March 22, 1905, at Buffalo, Kansas, son of Mahala Duncan Orr and John Lester Orr. Following the death of his mother when he was two, he was raised by his maternal grandfather, William Duncan near Columbus Junction, where he attended school and began his business career. He married Berniece Irene Shockey, born July 12, 1907 in Clarinda, Iowa, daughter of Elizabeth and Corey Shockey, on September 6, 1930, in Memphis, Tennessee. Berniece Orr died on August 22, 1980, just before their 50th wedding anniversary. On September 9, 1981, Max married Sadie L. Stark in Maricopa County, Arizona. She survives him and now lives in Muscatine. Mr. Orr is also survived by his daughters, Patricia W. Burnham and her husband Robert of East Burke, Vermont and New York City and Kathryn I. Taylor and her husband Clark of Needham, Massachusetts. He also has six grandchildren; Lucinda White, Christopher White, Duncan Burnham, Jeff Taylor, Heidi Olaska, and Ellen Taylor; and six great-grandchildren, as well as several step-children, nephews and cousins. Max was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Berniece and one brother, Lester Orr of Columbus Junction, Iowa. Mr. Orr was Agency Manager for downstate Illinois for the Woodmen Accident and Life Company of Lincoln, Nebraska from 1947 to 1970, when he became a senior representative. He had worked with the company since 1940, serving both in the field and as a senior vice president of the company. He was a member of the National Life Underwriters. Mr. Orr also served as a City Councilman and Mayor Pro Tem in Normal, Illinois, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bloomington, Illinois; of the Consistory and the Second Presbyterian Church in Bloomington, as well as both the Peoria, Illinois and Mesa, Arizona Mohammed Shrines. Between 1970 and 1992, he spent several months of the year in Arizona, establishing his final residence in Muscatine, Iowa near his family home and his farm in Columbus Junction, Iowa. Kuntz, 69, of Oakville, died Wednesday morning, June 18, at his home. Born Feb. 13, 1917 at Oakville, he was the son of Joe and Emma Berger Kuntz. He was a 1935 graduate of the Oakville School. He pitched baseball for 20 years for the Moose and Canadian teams as well as others and had farmed near Oakville all his life. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Oakville. Surviving are his wife, Sue, Oakville; five stepdaughters, Stephanie Hall, Mesa, Ariz., Stacy Hall, Berlin, Germany, Lyn Snyder, Wapello, Brenda Hughey, Sunnymead, Calif., and Cindy Robbins, Muscatine; one stepson, Marty Walker, Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, Art, Wapello, and Ray “Curly”, Oakville; and four grandchildren. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 20 at the Oakville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Harold E. Werley officiated. Phyllis McCulley was organist. Pallbearers were Milton Kuntz, Gary Kuntz, Bob Kuntz, Mark Kuntz, Keith Kuntz and Jim Velky. Honorary pallbearers were Mel Kupferschmid, Ray Criner, A.D. Spitznogle, Virgil Massner, Dale Massner, Rodney Malcolm, Forrest Hunt, Don Malcolm, Nelson Graham, and Robert Campbell. Flowers were cared for by Donna Schroder, Peggy Hunt, Peg McConahay and Marilyn Malcolm. Graveside services at the Hawkeye Cemetery with Mr. Ed Lantz officiating. Visitation is at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Chapel one-half hour before service time. Memorials may be made to the Sunrise Terrace Care Center. Mrs. Marion was born Feb. 25, 1894 at Crawfordsville, a daughter of John and Margaret Manley Riley. She married Andrew Jackson Marion on Dec. 25, 1912. He died in 1959. Survivors include two daughters, Grace Woodward of Davenport; and Mrs. Clarence (Margueritte) Jennings of Columbus Junction; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
