Visitation begins at noon Saturday. The son of John and Grave Rawmiller Martin, he was born Oct. 20, 1920, in Louisa County. His marriage to Margaret Emagene McDonald took place Nov. 12, 1949, in Independence, Mo. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Morning Sun. Mr. Martin has been employed as a farmer and banker and was a former chairman of the board of the Iowa State Bank of Morning Sun. Survivors include his wife; one son, Mark of Morning Sun; two daughters, Bonnie and Beth, both at home; one grandchild; two brothers, William of Columbus Junction and Larry of Glenwood; and three sisters, Mrs. Richard (Jeanette) Howe of Mount Pleasant, Mrs. Ann Workman of Bates City, Mo., and Mrs. Paul (Kay) Duncan of Columbus Junction. The son of Charles and Anna Bartenhagen Samuels, he was born at Muscatine, Iowa on October 17, 1903. He married Alice Hupp on October 10, 1931 at Nashua, Iowa. She died on March 2, 1971. He had attended school at Otter Creek School and was a farmer throughout his life. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello. He enjoyed baseball, horses, hunting and fishing. Survivors include a daughter, Doris Samuels of Wapello; five sons, Jack Samuels, Keith Samuels, and Lester Samuels, all of Wapello; William Samuels of Muscatine, and Larry Samuels of Sigourney; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Bowers of Winter Haven, Florida and Miriam McConahay of Muscatine; two brothers, Dean Samuels of Wapello and Robert Samuels of Morning Sun; and several nieces and nephews. She taught school for four years prior to her marriage and then worked at the Washington J. C. Penney Store for 21 years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women of the church. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Sunday. Madeleo died on Wednesday, July 26, 1996 in Toledo, Iowa while on RAGBRAI. A memorial has been established at the funeral home. Burial was in the Letts Cemetery, Letts, Iowa. Madeleo Wagner Blake was born April 24, 1914 near Letts, Iowa to Everett and Madeline Wagner Blake. He married Ruth Fowler, January 24, 1938. They divorced after 24 years. He then married Ileane Smith June 19, 1963 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Ileane survives him. Madeleo was a custodian for the L & M School system retiring in 1981. Prior employment included being bus manager for Columbus Community Schools and working at J. I. Case Company in Rock Island. Madeleo was most noted as an accomplished senior athlete. Madeleo has a room full of trophies and medals that he was won over the past 12 years. He has traveled the United States competing in all Senior Olympics events. When Madeleo was 70 he rode his bicycle from the West Coast to the East Coast for his summer ride. This was his 20th year to be on RAGBRAI. Madeleo founded and maintained the Avenue of Flags at the Letts Cemetery. Survivors include: his wife, Ileane, Letts; two sons, Warren and Justin Blake, both of Letts; four daughters, Mrs. Bobbie (Jackie) Kemp, Letts, Mrs. Mike (Janet) Budds, Las Vegas, Nevada, Ms. Julia Humphreys, Fruitland-Muscatine, Mrs. Steven (JoLynne) Jody Fuller, Columbus Junction. She was a graduate of the Mediapolis High School, class of 1920; she received nurses training at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines; graduating with her R.N. certificate in 1926; she worked as a R.N. in Madrid, IA for several years and then later at Burlington Hospital. Pearl was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church of Burlington. Survivors include: one sister, Violet Amenell of Mediapolis and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister Lillian Kremer and one brother Clarence Gustafson. Funeral services were held Friday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. from the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, Mediapolis, with Dr. Martin Lehman officiating. Music was provided by Korkee Carruthers, organist. Burial followed at the Grandview Cemetery. A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Grandview Community Bible Church. Born July 31, 1913, in Moberly, Mo., she was the daughter of Charles A. and Sara Elizabeth Jackson Brown. She married Glen H. Stafford on March 23, 1935, in Illinois. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and worked part-time at Cargill Corp. in Mount Pleasant. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Mount Pleasant. Survivors included five daughters, Evelyn Riley and Violet Mills, both of Mount Pleasant; Ruth Yakleof of Wapello, Ferne Hill of Trenton, and Pauline Moeller of Winfield; three sons, Dean Stafford and Paul Stafford, both of Mount Pleasant, and Wayne Stafford of Winfield; 36 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, one daughter, three sisters and two brothers. The funeral for Mrs. Stafford was at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elliot Chapel with William Knox officiating. Burial was in Brooks Cemetery, New London. The daughter of George Alfred and Ann Lucretia (Sperry) Jackson, she was born July 31, 1899 at Center, Missouri. On July 27, 1920 she married William O. Baker at Wapello, Iowa; he died April 9, 1963. Viola cooked at the Morning Sun school for many years and was a homemaker for her family. She is survived by three daughters, Grace Broeker of Morning Sun; Veda Smith of Diamond Bar, California; Shirley Linder of Stronghurst, Illinois; two sons, William E. Baker of New London and Kenneth Baker of Arkansas; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, one brother, one granddaughter, and one grandson. She was born March 27, 1891, in Wayne County, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis and Nellie Hine Johnson. She married Grover Jennings on April 14, 1909. He died in 1968. She was employed by the Baker Hotel in Wapello. She and her husband were caretakers for 35 years of the Wapello City Hall and Library.
