    3. Keith, Wow@!@! This is too easy! I just put the querie on the internet for the 1st time and wrote to Louisa County for the first time yesterday, and I get a response! And what a response! Where are you from? Are you a descendant of the Willises also? If not, you sure are dedicated to researching them! It told my husband what you wrote about the Willis family, and I commented that your response must have made my blood pressure rise about 20 degrees! He said that I can't handle the pressure on the net--that I should just get off! Could I have a copy of the pictures of LaVisa? I would even like some of Elizabeth. I have a picture of 4 women and I think Elizabeth and LaVisa are 2 of them. Do you have that picture? I also have been given several pictures of relatives that live near Columbus Junction, IA, that I can't identify. Do you have relatives there? Is LaVisa young or old in your pictures? Do you have any pictures of Robert Willis? Have you run into any other descendants of the Willises besides the Virginia guy? I wonder if I could ever write him now. I am anxious to hear what your pictures are like. How did you ever find a descendant related to the photographed? Connie Beck, Taylor Co., IA PS I wonder if there are any Willis descendants now reading our letters? Wish they would speak up!!!!

    2. Keith/Connie Street
    3. Dear Connie, A few years back a lady in Texas bought some pictures in an antique store. I ended up with them when I undertook the project to find descendants to give them to. After much research I identified some of the people. The people I was looking for would be descendants of Elizabeth Willis and Andrew Thompson. This Elizabeth Willis I believe is a granddaughter of Robert Willis and Sarah Gibson, through their son William Willis who married Elizabeth Skinner. Lavisa Willis who married Robert Willis is the next younger sister in the family to Elizabeth, and is your ancestor. I have some pictures of Lavisa. You name the siblings of Robert Willis. I will name the siblings and parents of Lavisa Willis as I have them. William Willis was born about 1792 at Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. He was married 2 January 1814 to Elizabeth Skinner in Belmont County, Ohio. Elizabeth had been born 20 Jan 1793 in Woodstock, Virginia. Both died and are buried in Rice Cemetery, Morning Sun Township, Louisa County, Iowa. William died on 8 December 1854 and Elizabeth on 8 September 1847. William married a second time, to Eliza Moore. Children of William and Elizabeth Skinner Willis follow. 1. Harrison Willis, born 29 May 1815. 2. Mary Jane Willis, born 24 July 1816 in Belmont County, Ohio; married James Crawford on 31 August 1837 at Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio. She died 27 June 1872 at Winfield, Henry County, Iowa. Several of the pictures I have are still unidentified; I think some are of the Crawfords. 3. Robert L. Willis, born 30 March 1818. 4. Eliza Willis, born 3 Feb 1820 and died about 1840. 5. Nancy Willis, born 11 May 1821 in Ohio and died 5 May 1893 in Neosha, Kansas. She married Cornelius Aronhalt. 6. Joseph Willis, born 5 April 1823 and died about 1840. 7. Elizabeth Willis, born 1 April 1825 in Muskingum County, Ohio, married Andrew Thompson on 17 June, 1847, in Muskingum County, Ohio. Andrew was born 3 October 1823 near Wheeling, now West Virginia but then Virginia. He died 18 April 1892 at Columbus City, Louisa County, Iowa. Elizabeth died October 30, 1916 at Wapello, Louisa County, Iowa. I have numerous pictures of her and her family, and three or four pages on her descendants. 8. Lavisa Willis, born 21 January 1828 in Ohio; Lavisa married Robert Willis. Connie, you descend from them. 9. William Willis, born 18 August 1831 and died about 1840. 10. Samuel Findley Willis, born 2 March 1834. 11. Mariam Willis, born 11 May 1836 and died 7 December 1855. Mariam married Hiram Dunn. Most of the above information came from Thomas P. Crawford, 3709 Moss Drive, Annandale, VA 22003-1916 several years ago. I will be gone on Saturday and Sunday, so will not be able to respond until next week to any answer. 3. As a Rootsweb Sponsor, I am limited to having two Mailing lists, IALOUISA-L and my personal FULTONVA-L list. Therefore, I cannot have a Mailing List for Henry County, Iowa. Therefore, do not be surprised if folks occasionally post to the Louisa County list. I prefer them posting to this list rather than to send research requests to me personally since I do not live in Henry County. Most websites do include neighboring counties when appropriate and in this case, I think this is the best way for handling this for the time being. Up to this point this list has not been that busy but what it can handle both counties. Unfortunately, we do not have a resident genealogist for Henry County so it may not be quite as efficient for Henry County as it is for Louisa County. Norma

    3. On March 28th, 1998, at 10:00a.m., Members of the Louisa County Genealogical Society will be meeting at the home of Norma Jennings to learn more about Using the Computer for Genealogical Research. Since my home is small and there is only one computer to use, a brief business meeting will be held first, and the balance of the day will be utilized working with small groups at a time throughout the day. Some handout sheets to read or take home for reference will be available. Those wishing to spend all day may want to bring some finger foods to nibble. Coffee, iced tea, and/or punch or fruit juice, will be provided by the hostess. Items on the agenda are: Using search engines, Bookmarking key genealogical websites for future reference and also a list of some of the primary Genealogical Websites on-line. Rootsweb websites and resources, of course, will be a key issue since that is the one the presenter is involved with. Norma Jennings

    1. Re: Posting to the IALOUSIA list
    2. Norma F. Jennings
    3. Actually, Connie is on the right track except it was the wrong county. But since we do not have a Henry County list, I understand why she posted to this list as our surnames do overlap into adjoining counties. This list is for any queries, general county information or for making contacts with other researchers interested in Louisa County Surnames or History. As a rule, I do not moderate the list, so basically, as long as it is in good taste, you may discuss just about anything pertaining to Louisa County on this list. The one thing I will not tolerate is slamming the other posters. Please be kind to each other and have a good time on this list. We also appreciate receiving brief biographical sketches on other families for other viewers on this list. If at all possible, please quote sources or at least residences of those who moved from or to another location. This will help identify the surnames you are researching. Please share your information and help make this a more interesting list. For Henry County information, you need to post your queries to: http://www.rootsweb.com/~iahenry/queries.htm However, it is quite appropriate to use the IALOUISA-L list to post Louisa County queries. However, you may want to post to both the list and to the query page. The idea behind the list is for people to communicate back and forth between one another. By posting to this list, you may locate someone else searching for the same surname in Louisa County. Perhaps, folks need to know that posting to this list sends your message out to all subscribers on the list. Posting to the query page directly on line will leave your query on-line for a period of time, as yet undesignated. It depends on the number of queries and how large the file becomes. The query page is one people can go to and read at their convenience. If you wish to post to the queries list which is less direct but longer lasting, the correct URL to access the writeable page is: htpp://www.rootsweb.com/~ialouisa/queries.htm I have been quite happy to see several posting to this list in the last week and hope you will continue to share and exchange information in this manner. 2. Robert Storks
    3. Hi; I'm researching the STORKS family of Louisa Co. They lived in the area of Oakville. What I need to know is there any books or city history written about Oakville that is available. What I'm hoping to find is some picture of the store which William had in Oakville.

    1. WILLIAMSON, WINDER
    2. Keith/Connie Street
    3. Hi all Another request I worked on this week was for information on WILLIAMSON and WINDER families. Albert W. Williamson was the second of five children born to John H. Williamson and Esther Ann Townsley, who were married in Greene County, Ohio. John first came to Grandview Township in 1835; left for a time but returned in 1836 and bought a 160 acre tract of land in section 3. He moved back east, but returned again circa 1845 and settled in Port Louisa Township. He later moved again to Grandview Township, where he died in 1883. Albert married Emma Winder in 1876; they had seven children:Everett, Pearly, Roy, Noah, Reuben, Ruth and John. Emma Winder was one of seven children born to David Winder and Annie B. Holliday, who were married in Ohio in 1846 and who came to Louisa County in August of 1848. Information on either or both of these families is appreciated and will become a part of the collection in the library of the Louisa County Genealogical Society in the Heritage Center. Thanks. Keith Street

    1. MURPHY
    2. Keith/Connie Street
    3. Hi all, I have investigated the MURPHY surname in early Louisa County this week. I have concentrated on Cornelius Murphy, Sr., who was a native of Schuykill County, Pennsylvania. He purchased land in Louisa County in 1860 and moved to Louisa County circa 1865. His first wife was Mary Homhan or Hourhan; his second wife was Mary Casey. Children, all by first wife, included Michael (I think); Cornelius, Jr.; John; Daniel; Patrick; Jerry and Dennis. Information I have collected will end up in Heritage Center library. Cornelius died in 1904. Any information you can provide appreciated. Thanks Keith Street

    1. Thompson Cemetery listing
    2. Warren and Cathy Hadley
    3. I have been to the Thompson Cemetery to check the tombstones for Elizabeth and Thomas Carey. The date on the stone for Thomas Carey is Jan 19, 1854 (not 1864) and the date on the stone for Elizabeth Carey is 1879 (not 1889). What must one do to get these errors corrected?
