Does anyone know where the town of Harrison is in Lousia County? If yes, are there any cemeteries in that town. I hope this is not to general of a question. All I know is my GGGrandmother was buried behind the "Old Harrison Church". Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thank you, Marcy Billings Yes, I checked the Lousia County Web site for the cemetery listings.
For those of you working on indexing and correcting the Cemetery Book - We have identified the difficult to read old stone in the Old Clifton Cemetery which had Civil War markings on the stone. The Civil War soldier killed in the Civil War who is buried in Old Clifton is William McCoy. While working on marriage records just now, I ran across a marriage record for a William McCoy. He married Susanna Dix on 25 July 1839 Norma Jennings

Unfortunately, we have had not one, but two sisters-in-law in the hospital in critical condition that we know we are going to lose shortly which has kept me preoccupied with concern for them since January 9, 1999. You will be happy to know that both counties have been updated. I just uploaded the converted Henry County queries today and Louisa County was done yesterday. The mortality schedule of Louisa Co. for June 1849 to May 1850 shows Frederick SNYDER, 36, born Germany, died April 1850 of cholera. Can anyone tell me where he is buried or where I can find out anything else about him. I note there were two others who died of cholera that same spring and summer. On the 1850 census of Louisa Co, in Grandview Twp., is Frederick's widow, Adaline. Also in the same township are Julia A. SNYDER, 68, born Germany, and in another household are Philip SNYDER, 30, born Germany, and his family. Can anyone tell me if this is the mother and brother of Frederick? Frederick and a brother supposedly came to Louisa Co. and entered land, then returned to Pennsylvania for their families and brought them to Iowa. We thought Frederick died on the return trip but evidently he arrived in Louisa Co. before dying. Thanks for any help and/or advice. Mary Hart

Erin in Ankeny, I read with interest your posting of surnames - the name MILLER caught my eye. My g-grandmother, Lavina BEDWELL b. 1840 in Louisa Co., d/o John BEDWELL and Eliza Jane HARNETT, m. Alexander MILLER in Louisa Co. in 1855. They had a daughter Nancy MILLER b. 1861. Alexander died from injuries inflicted in the Civil War. Lavina Bedwell Miller remarried in 1865 in Louisa Co. to George W. HONTS b. 1838, son of Daniel HONTS and Mary GOOD. In the 1880 census they were living in Polk Co., NE. Next door to them was a 19 yr. old Nancy, wife of Benton WYKERT. I've wondered if this Nancy was Nancy Miller, daughter of Alexander MILLER and Lavina BEDWELL. Do you have any info on Nancy MILLER b. 1861? I know her father, Alexander Miller, is buried at Long Creek Cemetery. (Lavina's mother, Eliza Jane, married Francis WYKERT, Jr. in 1852 - I believe Benton Wykert was a nephew to Francis Jr.) Mari Nielsen

I am seeking information on the Hamilton Family that moved to Louisa County, Iowa sometime after 1835. John Hamilton and Elizabeth Brown Hamilton moved with their 11 children and lived near Morning Sun. John and Elizabeth are buried in Rice Cemetery in Louisa County, Iowa. John Andrew Hamilton, my great, great grandfather married Lydia Paisley in Morning Sun on July 3, 1855. His brother William later married Dorthy Paisley in 1858. My great grandfather Samuel Brown Hamilton was born in Morning Sun on June 30, 1856. I am particularly interested in the location of Rice Cemetery and if it is still in existance. I am also interested in other documents or information about this family that may exist. Anyone with information about the family or resources for this type of information in Louisa County would be greatly appreciated. Thanks you very much Melissa
Hi New Cousin Melissa, My great grandparents were William HAMILTON and Dorothy "Dolly" PAISLEY. William died in 1914 in Linn county Kansas. Dorothy died in 1937, I believe. I have visited the Rice Cemetery in 1983. It was still there just a few miles out of Morning Sun and back in a field. Most of the stones were still in place at that time. I copied the info from them. Andrew HAMILTON died in Bates county Missouri and is buried in Mulberry Cemetery. He has a nice stone that includes Lydia's name but her death date is not there. She is buried there tho. She died in El Paso county Colorado. Melissa, I am so excited about you. Who are your line down from Andrew? Could it be Samuel? Please contact me as soon as possible, I'm not going to be able to sleep. Lately, I have received a large number of e-mail messages directed to me rather than the mailing list. While I have tried to do the courteous thing and answer each one in the past to the best of my ability, the sheer volume of my mail is such that I cannot continue to do so. I would like to ask all of you to please post your queries either on the mailing list or on the automated query pages that are maintained indefinitely on the website, rather than directing queries to me personally. I cannot remember who contacted me about what and send them information privately that I may run across in the future on their families. I am going to post a few that I have received and perhaps some of you may have information to help. Do any of our subscribers have any information on the following: > I'm searching for my great-grandma named Catherine Pontzious or Pontzius (married name McKay). She was buried in a " little grave " along side of her father John Pontzious or Pontzius in Cairo, Iowa. She was born in 1853 to John & Rachel Pontzious of Wapello and Cairo, Iowa. She married George Washington McKay of Burlington, Iowa ( my great grandpa ). She has 2 daughters. She died in 1878 at age 25. I looked for Fulton, Long Creek, and other cemeteries, but am unable to find them. Any help in finding the burial site of my great-grandma would be greatly appriciated. Thank You, Nancy Barz. bnbarz@juno.com
If you are concerned about the rumored virus set to go off at midnight New Year's Eve, you can protect all your genealogical data by setting your computer clocks back a few weeks until January 1st is well past. Yes, this was written Dec. 30th, but that isn't the date you will be seeing at the top of this page. Norma
