Hi Tom, I've been researching in Louisa Co. for about 3 months now trying to link my McNamar line to the McNamars in Louisa. Josephus and Mary Clark's daughter Mary was married to Philip McNamar and I have accumulated a lot of information on all of the families that married into the McNamars. I checked the Ancestral File today to see if anyone had submitted anything on John Clark and sure enough someone had. His information was that John Clark was born in Maryland, same date as is on his tombstone, and gave his children's names, who they married and in some cases, their children. This includes Dora Shoop marrying Harry Getts. Did you also want information on Josephus and Mary and their family? Maybe it would be best if you could let me know just what you have and then I won't be repeating things that you already know. As for John, a couple more things I found were the service of a John Clark from Ross Co. in the War of 1812 and a marriage record from Washington Co. MD for a John Clark and Sarah Norris in July of 1812. It would seem like this had to have been two different John Clarks, but at least it gives you a couple of leads. Look forward to hearing from you. Pat Walker pj2w@gte.net

Please, Please have the Obits on-line. I looked at Henry county Obits. Think they are great. Edith - --------------------------
If anyone of you wish to try out the obituaries pages on the Henry County site by submitting an obituary to see how it works, feel free to do so. just mark it Test, Sample or something so I know it isn't for real. I can always edit it out later...that is if we only accept samples or test entries until the 4th of July and then after that I will expect them all to be for real. Norma
Sorry the error message came up this p.m. on the obits page. I was still working on a few errors and the Write feature on the FTP site was temporarily out of order between editing and loading, etc. It should be working now. Norma
I have just worked on the Post an Obituary Form for Henry County and it appears to be working again so others can post Henry County obituaries they have. Is there enough interest in Louisa County for me to develop similar forms for Louisa County. As time permits these obituaries would be imported into CCHELPER and sorted the same way the queries are now being handled. The original Query Forms are adapted for use in a different directory with slight rewording for Obituaries. Now that these forms are created for Henry County, it would only require a bit of word change to use the same format on Louisa County. Is there enough interest on the mailing list to justify doing this? Also if you see any errors in the wording, please let me know. Thank you! To see the form I am talking about you can view it at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~iahenry/obituary/obituary.htm Norma Jennings List Owner for the following lists: IALOUISA-L@rootsweb.com IAHENRY-L@rootsweb.com FULTONVA-L@rootsweb.com Websites: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialouisa http://www.rootsweb.com/~iahenry http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~jennings http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/7687 http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/j/e/n/NORMA-F-JENNINGS
Sorry sent this on a reply so went to wrong address. Would like to see this on Louisa Co also and hopefully some old obits as well. The Henry Co comes up ok and the submittal form however the existing obits give me this response: You are not authorized to view this page You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- If you believe you should be able to view this directory or page, please try to contact the Web site by using any e-mail address or phone number that may be listed on the www.rootsweb.com home page. This is not a commercial and I am not connected with the company in any way, but I have been using a little program that is really neat for viewing and sorting graphics. I am a bit of a graphics junkie. I am always downloading new graphics and the author's logos thinking I may use them someday. Then when I go to use them I have to search for the artist's logo. I have tried several but like ACDC the best as I can view them in thumbnail or larger format with the click of a mouse. I do a lot of sorting into categories with it. If you are developing a new webpage you might find it useful. http://www.acdsystems.com/products/index.htm
If any of you have the Louisa County Cemetery book or have relatives buried in the Linn Grove Cemetery, it has been brought to my attention that Joseph Beard d. July 10, 1838, not 1888 as recorded earlier. This has been corrected on my website, but you may want to correct this in your records. Thank you! Norma Jennings
If you have sent a personal e-mail to me rather than to the list, I must apologize for being unable to answer all of your messages. I have been swamped lately from people clicking on my e-mail address on my many different web sites or by hitting "reply to" on the list which sends the messages back to me. In addition, the spammers have been unusually busy the last few weeks and packing my mailbox with trash that Rootsweb has filtered out and sent to me instead of to the list. These have to be reviewed and usually dumped but just one more necessary nuisance task. While ideally I would like to answer all messages sent directly to me, it just isn't always possible to do so and still add new material on-line for all. I would like to encourage all of you to post to the list where others may also be able to help you rather than sending the messages directly to me. We now have nearly 100 subscribers each on the Henry County and Louisa County mailing lists so your question has a much better possibility of bringing results if posted on the list instead of contacting me. Thank you for your consideration and compliance with this request. I would also like to thank those who have sent material for me to add to the sites that I still hope to use in the future. It is appreciated but time has prevented my getting it coded for the Internet. I am still trying to figure out why my obituary submissions form is not working on the Henry County site. It was working up until November but is not accepting the write ins right now. I hope to add more write in forms to the Louisa site as well so others can add obituaries and birth, death and marriage records but this all takes a lot of time that is difficult to find this time of year. Thought Id pass this along My dear family, friends, and fellow seekers, A new virus is out (I didn't even bother to get it's name), so I thought that this might be a good time to remind everyone to protect themselves. It is particularly important in a community like ours where we are much more freely passing information between people that we meet on-line. It also means that we could accidently spread a virus rather quickly. As with most things, Common Sense is important. 1). Do NOT open an attached document on ANY un-solicited e-mail. It doesn't matter if it says you are going to receive millions of dollars by doing. Just don't do it. Also, if you receive an e-mail that seems a little strange from someone you know -- it may not be written like that person usually writes -- don't open it until you contact that person. 2). Do NOT click on the unsuscribe button or any other web link on un-solicited e-mail. It can take you places that you don't want to go to. 3). Backup your precious data regularly. I keep all of my data and documents under a directory called "Data" with sub-directories for the various tasks (Genealogy, Music, Recipes, etc.) That way, all I have to do to backup all of my data is to copy the "Data" directory to floppy's (my new computer has the 120 meg floppy drive which is great.) I'm not constantly backing up all of my program files and I don't have to look all over the hard-drive to find all of my data underneath individual program directories. 4). Get a good virus protection program. This computer came with McAffee but I also have Norton on other computers. They are not that expensive and can really help to keep you safe. 5). The Documents that you need to be most concerned about are those which are created in programs that have a full-featured Macro or Program language and that you use the program with those features to read. Also you need to be careful of running ".EXE" programs or documents. These programs include "MS Word", "MSExcel", "MSOffice", etc. (the list is by no means exhaustive. You should always read Word Documents ".DOC" in Word Viewer or QuickView first (if you don't have it, it should be available on the internet). Notepad and WordPad have no macro language so reading text files in those programs should be fairly safe. Also, .GED (GEDCOM) files are actually text files in a particular format, they have no program commands in them. Also, if you are attaching files to someone else, it is best to attach them as plain text files (Notepad or WordPad readable files) until you and the other person have agreed to share the version in a full-featured word-processor from. I don't mean to scare anyone, but I thought that some ideas for a little prevention might just get everyone thinking. We can keep this wonderful media for sharing our family and our-selves safe for everyone with just a little caution and common sense. Happy Hunting, Scott Pittman rsprgv@aol.com

I am trying to locate anyone who knows something about John Gilliland who was a county commissioner in Louisa County in 1839. He also was a surveyor in Washington County, as well as Louisa. I am looking for the names of his wife, children, etc. He had two wives and several children. The children I know of are David who married Rebecca Williamson, Jane, Elizabeth, Nancy Ann, Eliza, Adaline, John and Amanda. I dont know which children go to which wife. One wife's name is Elizabeth. Does anyone have any info on this family? Thanks Lorene Anderson Reneiand@aol.com
The IIGS Newsletter is now out. An interesting article this month is Unpuzzling the Past Via Naming Patterns by Penny Bonnar. Understanding these naming patterns can help determine the parents and grandparents when they are unknown. The URL is below: http://www.iigs.org/newsletter/9906news/naming.htm.en
