    3. My list is long, as it contains not only direct line ancestors but "side lines" as well: PARSONS, SIMMONS, DUNCAN, OGIER, BENNINGTON, PIGMAN, DAVIS, HOUSEAL, MC CONNELL, ARMBRIGHT, PAXTON, KAUFFMAN The first five surnames are direct line, the rest are "side lines". Hope someone can help, especially with the PARSONS line which eventually goes back to Pennsylvania. By the way, my uncle Laird Parsons married Nita KEMP. Any connection with yours, Michelle? I also have a Caroline JOACHIM (or JOACHAM or possibly VERGLER) who married my gg grandfather, Joel C. PARSONS. They settled in Wapello, Louisa, IA in the early 1840's. Does this JOACHIM name sound familiar to anyone. Could really use some help with this one. This is a great idea, Connie. I am sending this with a prayer in my heart that the flood gates will finally open on the Parsons lines. I have lots to share on the DUNCAN, OGIER, SIMMONS lines. 8-) Willa Parsons Griffin Spokane, Washington

    1. Louisa Co. Names
    2. Pat
    3. Carol, I have two notations from 'Robinson's History of Greene Co. OH' that appear to apply to the Louisa Beard/Shellabarger families: From the chapter "Roster of 10,000 of the Early Settlers from 1803-1840" 1) Joseph Beard, son of Thomas Beard m. Advanna (Adrianna) Nevius 09 Feb 1822 2) Jacob Shellabarger, son-in-law of Thomas Beard. Although this conflicts with your Clark Co. OH this does make it appear that there is a possibility that Jane Beard was a sister to Joseph. The Nevius family also originated in N.J. which makes a further connection. When were the Beards and Shellabargers in Clark Co.? What is your Whisler connection? Franklin Pierce McNamer married Sarah E. Whisler who was the daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth Garretson Casebeer. I correspond with the wife of a descendant of Franklin and Sarah and will send you her address if you wish. Pat

    3. Pat, Thank you, i would love a copy of the Garrettson newsletter.I was lucky to get a packet of them from a member of that line but am missing some pages and you may have the one i want. Will send my address and postage. Yes, you are right-i would never think of marking the "old"records and will see if the clerk's can fix the "new" ones. I was just on the Cemeteries page which is wonderful-and saw a Lemual DILLER listed in Fredonia cem. and Elizabeth GILLIAN(sp?)died 1850,inscription was J.C. in the Cranston cem. There are 2 different lists for Cranston. My BEARD line is Jane(Shellabarger) buried same cemetery,Linn Grove,as Joseph.I am trying to make connection to them. She is born NJ and they came thru Clark co.,Ohio, also the Newell family at this time.Interesting part of this is Jacob,Jane's husband, owned the land and gave for a cemetery when Jos.Beard died shortly after arriving.I have the clipping with this story a cousin had saved all these years. carol >>>>old Garretson newsletter from the 1950's that was sent to me by a descendant of Sarah Eveline Whistler McNamer. Be glad to share it with you if you haven't seen it. Also, which Beard is in your line? I have Nancy Beard, daughter of Joseph and Adrianna, who married Philip McNamer in 1848.<< Finally, in regard to changing records; I think Carol was referring to changing modern indexes

    3. Hi everyone, I have been researching the McNAMER family looking for a connection to my McNamers who were in Appanoose and Davis Counties. I have a great deal of information on the Louisa Co. McNamers and varying amounts of information on some of the lines that married into that family: BEARD, CLARK, WHIS(T)LER, KIRTZ, EARNEST. Carol: I have a copy of an old Garretson newsletter from the 1950's that was sent to me by a descendant of Sarah Eveline Whistler McNamer. Be glad to share it with you if you haven't seen it. Also, which Beard is in your line? I have Nancy Beard, daughter of Joseph and Adrianna, who married Philip McNamer in 1848. Finally, in regard to changing records; I think Carol was referring to changing modern indexes and such, not courthouse records, right? In that situation, in the genealogy library where I work, if a patron tells us of an error in a modern indexed book and shows us the proof that it is indeed an error, we asterisk the notation and, depending on how much needs to be changed and how much room there is, will either write it in the book or type up a label noting the correct information and stick it somewhere close to the fact in question.. 3. As far as I know you can only change an official record with a court order. You would have to take some kind of proof before a judge. I witnessed a woman throw an absolute fit once in a courthouse and to get rid of her the clerk made the change. The next day, the woman realized she had given them the wrong name. Anyone else have a different answer? Connie Street ckcasey@netins.net >Norma or anyone, >question-what is the protocol when you find something misspelled-tell the >clerks and see that they change it? 3. Norma or anyone, question-what is the protocol when you find something misspelled-tell the clerks and see that they change it? I can put up with the 'original' records being somewhat off and only a family member would know various spellings. 3. I had the same result when the Washington County Clerk looked up the name Joseph McCorkle for me....none there she said, but I was welcome to go look myself. I walked into the back room. Spotted a book near the date I needed and in minutes had the marriage record I wanted. Yep, it had been spelled McCorkel in the marriage record. Even worse, when his mother remarried it was spelled Merkle. Had one lady argue with me that she remarried in 1851 and that my date of 1857 was incorrect. Trouble was, her first husband died in November of 1852 so I think my interpretation was more accurate of that short tailed 7. Looking them up yourself is still the best answer, but for some people this just isn't possible and some shutins don't have the resources to spend a lot of money on genealogy. We can only help them the best we can, but sharing info does help us compare and discover those errors. Norma
