There are several more Johnston families listed in the census. Three in Columbus City and two in Florence Twp. You list the surname "OURS" Could that possibly be ORR? I find several in the marriage book as well as three families in Columbus City. Only one BUCKNER listed in the census: 184\185 Buckner, Thomas age 20 laborer b IN Columbia City " Gabriel 18 " " Nancy 16 " " Elizabeth 11 " " John 9 " " Judia A. 6 " (these are all in the John W. BOYD household) In the 1850 Mortality Schedule is listed: Manly, William age 3 b OH d Aug of smallpox, was ill 21 days & resided in Columbus City. Do you want the Manly listing in the census? There is only the one family, Jas. in Columbus City. Also in that same household are Mary A. & Ellen Smith as well as Leonddas Mitcel. Hope this helps. Bev

    3. In response to a query that was mistakenly posted on the Louisa-D-request list which is to be used for subscribing and unsubscribing only and not for queries, I am reposting the question as I answer it. The Bios on the web page contain a condensed version of the genealogical data such as names, dates, places of birth etc. without all the excessive adjectives and glowing eulogies that inevitably accompanied these biographies. All names, dates etc have been extracted from those biographies so there would be no more helpful information in the actual bios. Just the writing style of the original author and excessive wordage is missing from the condensed versions. ---- Subject: Question on 1912 BIOs Date: Tue, 17 Aug 1999 18:46:33 -0700 (PDT) From: Tim Singleton <ts8501@micronet.net> To: "IALOUISA-D-request@rootsweb.com" <IALOUISA-D-request@rootsweb.com> Are the BIOs that are documented on the web site the full published document? Or does the actual book cover them in more detail? J.(Jake)C. Smith was my great-great grandfather. He was formerly a sheriff in the County. I am very interested in any information on Eliza Frizzell's family, whom Jake married. I would also like to resolve a minor discrepancy. R.L. (Robert Lee) Singleton and Eliza Berdella had a son named Ray Smith Singleton (not Roy Singleton as noted). He was my grandfather, borne in 1899, and died in 1986 in Rock Island, IL. Thanks for any assistance. -Tim Singleton

    3. I can't resist adding a tad more on the town of Ainsworth. I was privileged to attend a Chamber Opera at the renovated Ainsworth Opera House on May 5, 1999. The Culver-Stockton College Division of Fine Arts Opera Workshop students presented three one act chamber opera plays. Culver Stockton college is located in Canton, Missouri. This was actually the first opera performed in this Opera House as these little opera houses were more of a community center for various social functions in an earlier day. Michael Zahs, a history teacher and well known local historian introduced the audience to a bit of history on this particular building that had been used for a feed store in more recent years. When the feed store closed, a group of interested folks set out to acquire it and renovate it preserving as much of the old architecture as they could. I regret that I can not recall more of the history we heard from Mike that evening. An ice cream social is the most recent event held at the Ainsworth Opera House. Norma Jennings

    2. Keith/Connie Street
    3. Dear Ed, Go directly west from Columbus Junction for about 8 miles, on Highway 92. The first town you come to is Cotter. Continuing west, you cross into Washington County and then cross Highway 218 (this intersection is called Ainsworth Junction) and the present town or village of Ainsworth, which used to be a railroad center, is about half a mile from the road junction. It lies both sides of an existing and still operating railroad track. I think there is one service station still operating there, maybe a hog buyer, feed and supply store, a restaurant or tavern, but it is a typical small Iowa town that had its heyday almost 100 years ago. I know of more than one family in the area, who lived in Louisa County, to go to Ainsworth for medical assistance and thus die in Washington County. This was before hospitals. Since Louisa County never had a hospital, Louisa County residents still die in the hospitals in neighboring counties. At one time Ainsworth had traveler accommodations, a train depot, blacksmith, undertaker, doctor, school, etc. Keith/Connie Street ckcasey@netins.net 325 Franklin Ave, Wapello, IA 52653-1515 319-523-8164 -----Original Message----- From: Ed Gentzler <gentzler@gte.net> To: IALOUISA-L@rootsweb.com <IALOUISA-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, August 15, 1999 2:26 PM Subject: Ainsworth--Where is/was it???? >This is a multi-part message in MIME format. >--------------E08555D2D3C841890EE844A6 >Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii >Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > >I've been trying locate the town of Ainsworth, but none of my atlases or >maps (new or old) show it. 3. Dear Brenda, There are no Hosford burials listed in Louisa County. Before 1899 there is one marriage for a Hosford. This was a Louis D. Hosford to an Emily A. Gray on 8 May 1861. A printed transcription of the 1850 Iowa census for Columbus City Township, page 52, numbers 119/120 shows a Hannah Hosford, age 41, born in Virginia; Mary E., age 13, born Indiana; Sarah A., age 11, born Indiana; Hannah J., age 8, born Iowa. Thats all, from Keith Keith/Connie Street ckcasey@netins.net 325 Franklin Ave, Wapello, IA 52653-1515 319-523-8164 -----Original Message----- From: Brenda Hébert <brenhebert@mail.tss.net> To: IALOUISA-L@rootsweb.com <IALOUISA-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, August 12, 1999 4:14 PM Subject: COX, HOSFORD, HUMPHREY(S?), WARD (and others) >Hi! > >I'm trying to find information on my 4th Great-grandparents: Harry HOSFORD and Hannah COX.
