    3. I'm not sure if you got an answer to this. There were early newspapers but we had some very unwise county supervisors who took them to the dump several years ago. The only ones remaining are from about 1880, same time as vital records began. The probate index is a good idea. She died in Mankato, KS 10-16-1907 after having her third stroke. Obit says Nancy Baldry. Any insight anyone could provide would be GREATLY appreciated. Vicki

    3. Dear Mari and Louisa County List Members, Over the years I have researched many Louisa County families, some more intensively than others. I haven't touched many lines for close to 10 years, and have changed computers and programs a couple of times since then. Also, because these were not my lines, I did not enter any documentation for my entries. Somewhere in my files the information may be, but it is not something that I could immediately lay my hands on. I have the EFT (Everyone's Family Tree) genealogy program writted by Bill Dollarhide several years ago. I have a 30-page printout, including index of descendants, for the WYKERT immigrant, Francis Wykert, born 2 June 1737 in Rhine River, Germany; died 9 May 1825 in what is now Marshall County, West Virginia (then was Virginia). Francis was married 13 October 1783 in Berks County, Pennsylvania, to Elizabeth Shaefer. Besides the places listed above, he also resided for a time in Washington County, Pennsylvania. I have the names of 165 of his descendants in my EFT program descendancy. I hate to be mercenary, but the easiest way for me to pass on the information is to use my copier to make copies and to send you the information via snail mail. I'm not into exporting, making GEDCOM copies, writing to disk, transferring to another computer, pasting into e-mail and sending, etc. So if anyone wants a copy, send me your snail mail address along with $5 to cover my copying and postage costs. The Knight family is not carried down further than the naming of the children of Minnie Myrtle Wykert and Albert Knight. The Tharp obituary gives more information than I had entered for the family about 10 years ago. So let me know if you want a snail mail copy, and include your address. 3. Sondra and List, We have in our genealogy library "Official Register of the United States Officers and Employees in the Civil, Military and Naval Service" by Authority of Congress, compiled by the Chief Clerk of the Department of the Interior. Government Printing Office. This particular book is for 1903 however, according to the head of the deparment one is, and has been, published every year since back in the 1800's. This book (actually two volumes) lists every possible government position you could think of (and some you probably would never think of) including postmasters and post office clerks. Perhaps you could try through inter-library loan to see if the book for the year(s) that Felix was postmaster is extant. Since I was looking through the book tonight I decided to jot down the postmasters and clerks for Louisa Co. and post it to the list just in case someone might find a name they are working on. Remember this is for 1903 and there are some towns listed that don't show up on my modern maps; I wonder if they still exist. Postmasters Cairo, J.L. Murray Columbus City, James H Duncan Columbus Junction, Nettie J. Dill Cotter, Thomas Johns Elrick, F.E. Elrick Fredonia, Jay J. Carter Grandview, William P. Robison Letts, Samuel B. 3. Keith, Thank you, thank you, thank you for this obit! I plan to contact the survivors of D. Margaret Knight Tharp immediately. I've had no contact with anyone from this line - you may have just blown my research of this line wide open! Bless you! 3. Dear List, Just wanted to add a few points to the reply made to Bobbie & Carol re: the above referenced names: Thomas B(eard?)Shellabarger household....he may have been the brother of Nancy Beard McNamer, b. ca 1826 in OH, if not, then he was a cousin. Jacob Shellabarger was listed in 'Robinson's History of Greene Co. OH' as the son-in-law of Thomas Beard; Joseph Beard (father of Nancy) was listed as the son of Thomas Beard. The McNamer children scattered throughout the county were indeed the children of Noah Wheeler and Margaret Hurley McNamer. Margaret died in April of 1850. Their daughter Miranda, 8, was with Thomas Shellabarger and his family, William,6, with the Henry Thompson family, Elizabeth,5, with her aunt and uncle, Philip and Nancy Beard McNamer, Margaret,3, with her aunt and uncle, Nicholas and Margaret Earnest McNamer, and John H., 2, with Harriet Spurgeon. Noah migrated with his children and other Louisa Co. families to Oregon in 1851 or 52 where in 1853 he married Nancy Kirtz, daughter of one of the other migrating families. And, yes I agree it is very important to submit information to the list rather than privately so that we all can benefit. Thanks to Bev for the mortality schedule information about Margaret McNamer contained in the above referenced post. Now I know her age and birthplace. She is buried in the Thompson Cemetery, Grandview Township, mistakenly listed as wife of N.A. McNamer. N.A. was Nicholas Alexander and her husband Noah was Noah Wheeler. Nicholas' wife, also named Margaret, died in 1898 in Davenport. Thanks to all who look up and post information. Pat Walker

The request address is for subsribe and unsubscribe only. Those two words are all the robot understands and he bounces anything else back to my mailbox. 3. I am embarrassed - sent this message directly to the Todds - thought I was sending to the list. Many thanks to the Todds who wrote: >>>>> I can't remember if I posted this through the mailing list or not.>>> I think that the Todds have taken on a monumental task - and I would like to express my appreciation to them and all of the other helpful people "on the list". Now I have 2 more questions: On the 1850 census I had found Great Grandfather Donald Creswell (middle name Cargill) and his brother Jabez living in the home of Agness Creswell - Agness Junr. lived next door - does anyone have any knowledge of the Agnesses? I don't find any family record of them and it is particularly curious that the younger one was born in Ireland. (in Grandview - Louisa County) 2nd question - I have seen mentioned several times that Gr Gr Grandfather John died of diabetes. Some in the family argue that they did not know about diabetes in 1850. These Mortality Schedules that are quoted are actual entries made in the original "schedules", aren't they. Just the facts - no later day interpretations? Judy Selby >______________________________

    3. Dear Ed and List, I researched the GENTZLER name in some of the Louisa County records held in the courthouse, but did not look at each record that is available. I did not look up any land transfers or marriages; the early marriages have been posted since my last Gentzler posting by another list member. Probate records for Gentzler are in boxes 42 and 52; in box 175, # 10779, for E. E. Gentzler, a transcript; box 180 #11192 for Edward C. Gentzler; Box 185 # 11805 for M. H. Gentzler; Box 198 # 13340 for Randall K. Gentzler; box 199 #13481 for Robert Dwight Gentzler; Box 203 # 13240 for Edna M. Gentzler and again in box 204 #13979 for Edna M. Gentzler. County death records include Ida Gentzler, died at age 22 of miscarriage; she born in Washington County, Iowa; died at Columbus Junction on 25 April 1891; buried in Washington County. Her doctor was J. W. Morgan. Levi Gentzler, born in Yorktown, Pennsylvania, died in Columbus City Township of Heart Trouble on 31 October 1891, aged 65; buried in Columbus City cemetery, of Dutch nationality. Alice Susan Gentzler, born 7 October 1861 in Tennessee; died 19 April 1924 aged 62 years, 6 months and 12 days; her father was born in Tennessee. Her mother's maiden name was unknown by the informant; she died of carcinoma of the liver; her physician was F. A. Hubbard and she was buried in Columbus City cemetery. Adam Gentzler was born 4 November 1859 in Pennsylvania, son of Eli (should be Levi) also born in Pennsylvania; mother was Alice Saltz, born in Tennessee. Adam died 26 September 1928 of Paralysis Agitana and was buried in Columbus City cemetery. His doctor was F. A. Hubbard. Inspection of affidavit records in the Recorder's Office produced the following information. Book 73, Page 64: Affidavit of V. B. Beane made on 8 April 1895. States that he knew, in 1871, in Columbus City, F. M. Gentzler. That at Gentzler's death he had three children: William A. Gentzler; John Gentzler; and Nora Gentzler. That his widow, Maria Gentzler, survived him and that these were all of his heirs. Book 118, Page 106: Affidavit of J. M. Garner, made 23 July 1910. States that he knew John and Maria Gentzler, grantors in a deed to Ruth F. Williams dated February 8, 1858 and recorded in Book 11, page 567. Also that he knew Levi and Harriet Gentzler, grantors in deed to Paul Lascher/Lischer dated June 3, 1867 and recorded in Book 20, page 546. Garner states that John and Maria were a married couple at that time and so were Levi and Harriet a married couple. Book 118, Page 480. Affidavit of D. S. Buffington, made 15 October 1912. States that he knew Isa E. Gentzler, grantee to a deed in Book 108, Page 428, dated 30 August 1909 and that she is the same as the Isadore Elsie Utterback who is this day deeding Lot A Block 4 in Columbus Junction in H. C. Wortham addition, to George N. Duncan, made on 15 October 1912. Book 234, Page 417. Affidavit of Robert F. Reaney made on 3 August 1965. States that Manford G. Gentzler and M. G. Gentzler are the same person, and that his Will and Estate were probated in Louisa County in Case # 11805. Does this help identify your Isadore Elsie Utterback, Ed?
