    2. George May
    3. Dear List Members: I just recently received a piece of information about Alfred D. MARVIN who married Eliza Ann TUTTLE in Fountain County, Ind. on July 30, 1840. They had 4 sons, James MOFFETT MARVIN b. 1842, Jabez, abt. 1845, Tillman A. b.1846 and John C. 1848. In 1860, they were living in Louisa County. In 1870 they were living in Decatur County, Iowa, except Jabez. Looking for anyone working on these families. 2. Norma F. Jennings
    3. As an addendum to the note I just sent, it was the name Jacob on one line and Snider on the second line that brought up a small number of books. I am sure if I had just entered the surname without the given name, the number would be much higher. By using the advanced search, you ask it to search for both names in the same works to narrow it down somewhat. I then tried John, on line 1, and Riley on line 2, and this time came up with 152 works instead of the 1100+ on the name Riley alone. I really don't know how much more refined we could get it as it seems to search for publication date first and then the surname and the books that surname is found in. Norma Jennings This was the URL that showed the post office book and page number for Jarrard if it will help anyone. http://moa.umdl.umich.edu/cgi/sgml/moa-idx?notisid=AHJ3101a

    2. Norma F. Jennings
    3. I continue to be amazed at the amount of data that can be found on line. I just learned of another book repository on line containing the scanned pages of over 1600 books and 50,000 journals. They hope to eventually have over 7500 books on line. Not knowing if this was available to the general public or only to students, I tried a simple search and every time came up with something. There are probably many more Universities with data on line. This may be a resource we have been overlooking. One interesting book I found was a list of all the postoffices and their postmasters after searching for the surname "Jarrard" between 1800 and 1925. Yes, a James Jarrard was at one time postmaster in Washington. You can do either a simple search or a more refined limited search with this resource. The URL for this repository is: http://moa.umdl.umich.edu/

    3. I know I may be a day late and a dollar short, but I only learned of this site tonight and thought it was a very useful site for the serious genealogist. We all know what a great asset the Internet is for the Genealogist, but there are also fraudulent and misleading sites that we need to be aware of. If you lose this URL, I have also put a link in the drop down menu on the Louisa County Genealogical Society's website. http://www.ancestordetective.com/watchdog.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialcgs/index.html.

    1. 1921 graduating class
    2. Norma F. Jennings
    3. The latest tidbit posted on the LCGS website is a graduation announcement with the names of the 1921 Columbus High School graduating Class. Most of these folks are now deceased but this is about as new as I would want to go to post on the Internet. But does anyone have older ones from Wapello, or other schools. I would have data on the Cotter graduates in my old annuals but have none for other Louisa County Schools. Norma http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialcgs/chs1921.thm

    1. Introduction
    2. Mundy, Marilynn L
    3. Hello, my name is Marilynn Mundy and I am researching GALLAGHER in Louisa County. On the 1870 census (Wapello Twp.) is listed Charles Gallgher w/wife Catherine and children Thomas, James and Mary. Charlie and Catherine are my daughters direct paternal line. They were born in Ireland and list their ages as 50 and 48 respectively with Thomas listed as age 16, James at 14 and Mary at 7. They arrived in Louisa County sometime between 1854 and 1856 as Thomas was born in Ohio and James in Iowa. Catherine is listed in the Louisa County death records as having died on April 13, 1886 at age 64 years and 2 months. She was buried in Wapello Cemetery. I don't have any death information on Charles. The only information I have on any of the children is that Thomas married Amanda Hicklin, daughter of James and Sarah (Williams) Hicklin. There is also another Gallagher on the 1870 Louisa Co. census (Charrton Twp.) at that time - James Gallagher, age 59, born in Ireland and his wfie, Catherine, age 46, also born in Ireland. He owned a hotel and she was the landlady. Their children were Elizabeth, age 16 and Argard (?), age 17, both born in New York. They had a day laborer listed on the census with them - Hugh Gallagher, age 58, born in Ireland. Any information about Charles, Catherine and their offspring would be very appreciated as well as whether there is a blood tie between Charles the farmer and James the hotel owner.
