    1. re: minor correction
    2. Norma F. Jennings
    3. For those who are not members of the LCGS, I think we need to clarify things a bit. Louisa County IaGenWeb is unique in the fact that it operates in total conjunction with the Louisa County Genealogical Society unlike many other sites. I have consistently consulted with the society and tried to work in harmony with their wishes to avoid a conflict of interests. It is mistakenly thought by some that this is an LCGS list. This is not true!. And I don't want to convey that message to the majority of our subscribers who do not belong to the LCGS. It isn't fair to them to convey that message. LCGS does make use of this list to interact with the public and its members but the rest of you are welcome to participate equally. At one time we became concerned about what happened to the on line data if something unforeseen happened to the coordinator. For that reason I designated the LCGS as the recipient of the material on line if I were no longer able to service it. That material is currently on the "ialcgs" website. But I am still alive and on deck with the official passwords. I want every single subscriber to feel like this is their list, not someone else's and I don't ever want to convey anything different. The success of any project is in making everyone feel welcome and a part of the project. This is "your list" as long as I am here. I am the moderator, yes, but I prefer to let you all run the list the best you can with as little interference from me as feasible as long as you can do it peacefully. While we have a number of LCGS members on the list providing genealogical services on the list, this is an IALOUISA-L list associated with the IaGenWeb. It is not an LCGS list in case non-members are wondering about this. The IaGenWeb and the Louisa County Genealogical Society are not synonymous even though it is difficult to determine the difference at times with the same person at the helm of both pages. Actually, I maintain several different websites on line. Since I am currently maintaining the The IaGenWeb page and the LCGS pages, they are interlinked and probably would remain so as that is where most of the data is located. The IaGenWeb pages are at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialouisa/index.html The mailing list and GenConnect remains with the IaGenWeb website and would go with that website if I were to give it up and let another coordinator take over. It would not necessarily remain with the LCGS. However, the LCGS website that does have the Louisa County Genealogical Society's material on it remains the property of the LCGS and it is at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialcgs/index.html I also maintain the Henry County IaGenWeb pages and the mailing list. I do not belong to the Henry County Genealogical Society. I was just born in that county. The website, mailing list, and GenConnect will all be turned over to Sheila Carr as soon as the tax season is over so she can better serve that community. All told, I have seven or eight websites I maintain and only the ialcgs page is considered the Louisa County Genealogical Society website in my books. Now, I guess you know everything I know, so good-night. Norma Jennings

    3. I just happened to notice two names on the list that are now deceased. Roger Peters and his wife Evelyn are both deceased. Robert Duryea is also deceased and his wife is completing his subscription but is less interested than he was in genealogy. Vivan Jennings address is: Mr. & Mrs. Vivan Jennings 23395 95th St. Columbus Jct., Ia 52738 I don't think he is currently working on genealogy as he is remodeling the old farm home that he grew up in as a child and still occasionally accepts contracts which take him out of the country. .....Catch as catch can. 1. Fw: Robinson surname
    2. William Wagner
    3. Hi - Just a note to probably further confuse the issue on the Robinson name. I have done a lot of searching for my g-g-grandmother, Nancy Leach who married Charles Robertson. I have gone through some of the earliest birth, marriage and death records at the courthouse. Family tradition has it that Robinson and Robertson names were somewhat "interchangable" in that sometimes I would hear the name Robinson and sometimes Robertson for the same persons. My Nancy Leach's death certificate was filed as Robinson. Her daughter, Mrs. Fanny Ping was the informant and she was listed as Mrs. Fanny Ring in the record. Also, her grave is in Oakvile, but the death record lists her as being buried in Winfield. Why do I state her name as Robertson? Her daughter's marriage records at the courthouse all say Robertson. Her gravestone says Robertson. Can't find any funeral home records from that era from either Winfield or Oakville to prove either way. But my mother says we also have Robinson relations from some other branch of the family. Don't know any alive today, though. I did look through my hand copied listings from the marriage index #1 and found Robinson, Mary E. who married Daniel (thought the last name might have been Neill, from the handwriting) and this is in Book B, page 3, line 22. I didn't however, check it out further, just made a notation to that effect. There are also lots of Robison names listed as well as a whole bunch of Robertson and Robinson names. I don't know if this will help you any. I quit writing down Robinson names after I found all my g-g-grandmother's daughter's marriage certifiicates listed them as Robertsons. Was Mary still alive when Daniel died in 1905? Next time I go hunting at the courthouse, I'll look for a death record on Mary if you'd like. 1. re: List vs. membership
    2. Norma F. Jennings
    3. Everyone is welcome to join the mailing list and you do not have to be a member of LCGS to be a subscriber or member to the mailing list. The only reason the newsletter services are limited to LCGS members is that there is an expense to the Society in preparing and mailing it out. Therefore, we do need the members dues to provide this service for you. The mailing list is free and open to all. Selling of services per se is not allowed. We have about 20+ members of the LCGS subscribed to this list out of approx. 90-120 subscribers depending on when I check. Some of these live out of state and seldom if ever attend a meeting. One party joined our society recently after seeing my post about the newsletter because she didn't know she could be a member. You don't have to live in Louisa County to be a member. You just need to be interested in Louisa County and its people. We are by no means exclusive. The mailing list is provided through the generosity of Rootsweb and really has little to do with the LCGS except the fact many of us are members and our activities overlap. The LCGS itself does not control the list. The listowner determines what is appropriate and what is not. As such, I hope all will feel welcome to join. It is my goal to generate a healthy congenial atmosphere for all. Norma Jennings Listowner IALOUISA-L Mailing List

    3. Now and then we need to stop and take stock of our common goals. While you all probably read the IaLouisa-L mailing list instructions at the time you joined, it doesn't hurt to review why we are here in the first place. This excerpt is from the mailing list instructions. "Please feel free to to post your Louisa County queries or surnames! You are welcome to talk about anything regarding Louisa County, Iowa. I live here and I'll try to answer your questions. If I can't answer your questions, I will refer you to someone who may be able to help you. This list's goal is to generate a friendly sharing of our common interests, as such, courtesy and tolerance will be expected from all subscribers. Please be nice whether you agree or not with other posted messages. No name calling will be allowed, or undue argumentiveness. "

    3. Keith & Connie Thank you for the congratulation. <<<<<<Congratulations, Gary, since your submitted names have generated the largest number of responses so far. I also commend the Louisa County list members for sharing their replies with all of us and not replying privately. You never know when a name dropped casually will strike a receptive ear and help us tear down some of the brick walls we have on various lines. It would appear that Susie did that for you, Gary. And Janice may soon do the same! To each and all of you I would say "Keep up the good work.">>>>>>>> You are Soooo right about tickling receptive ears. I have certainly learned a lesson. You know, I even debated about whether to go private with my correspondence or not. -- Sure glad I didn't. What is really remarkable to me, is that my initial request of you didn't involve the JAMES name at all other than the casual reference to a lost sibling.
