    1. Cedar Bethel and Cedar Township cemeteries...
    2. Ron Willa or Paul Griffin
    3. Hello listers! Once again I have a question about cemeteries. I am wondering if there is anyone who would have a record of who is buried in these two cemeteries. A very kind fellow list member visited the Cedar Bethal Cemetery recently, looking for the stones of my gg grandparents, Henry Bennington and Alice Hessler (widow of Jacob Hessler, and first wife of Henry Bennington, nee Alice E. Edgington). They did not find a stone for these people but indicated that many of the graves are unmarked or in poor condition or sunk so deep that they are unreadable. This person also indicated that many of the stones in the Cedar Township Cemetery were stolen for a house foundation somewhere in Letts. Who would I contact to find some record of who is buried in these two old cemeteries? Thanks, once again, in advance... Willa Parsons Griffin Spokane, WA

    2. I am looking for burial records for the Cedar Bethel Cemetery. Does anyone know if there is a trustee or anyone or place that would have records like this? I have relatives that I know are buried there, but there are no stones. I suspect more relatives are buried there and want to find out. Surnames: Edgington, Bennington, Temple

I am 15 and in ninth grade at Columbus Community High School. I desperately need qiuck info on the Columbus City School House for a report in English. My dad, uncle, and grandmother currently use it as a welding/machine shop, and have since 1962, but it was a school house from 1868-1956 (when it was deemed "unsafe"). If you have any stuff on who first was the teacher there, or who built it, or anything besides what I have given you, PLEASE mail it to me at cokegirl15@yahoo.com before Tuesday night if at all possible. Thank you. Sincerely, Holly Mendenhall = )

They were in IN until 1858 and moved to Louisa Co. Iowa. Samuel B. Higgs married Phebe C. McChesney in Muscatine Co Iowa 1874 but I cannot find him after that. 3. Dear Judy and LC list, The surname GRAVES is not mentioned in this Portrait and Biographical Album in the every-name index that I prepared several years ago. There is a hardbound genealogical book in the Heritage Center Library in Wapello on the Graves family. Some of the Graves family from Louisa County moved to Muscatine County. Some of the early Graves people in Louisa County are in the Graves book, I believe. There are several people researching the GRAVES surname in Louisa County, and I will list their names and addresses below. 3. Dear Jim and LC list, Marriage records have been kept in the individual Iowa counties since their organization. The first marriage book in Louisa County begins in 1837, when Louisa County was part of the Territory of Wisconsin and possibly Des Moines County. This is the book that contains the marriage of your Abraham Sargent, age 20, and Nancy Eleanor Adams, age 19. The book is in the custody of the Louisa County Recorder, 117 S Main, Wapello, IA 52653. A certified copy is from $6 to $10, I think, and you would write to Jean Brauns, Louisa County Recorder, for the certification. If you would be satisfied with a photocopy, I can go over and get one made for, I think, 50 cents, but it would not be certified. The 1850 Louisa County Census shows Abraham and Nancy and children in Grandview Township.
