Hi Patricia, The information I sent to Ed, was in a book of transcripts from Louisa County Newspapers, 1878-1898. The obit was transcribed from the Columbus Gazette, May 8, 1891. When I have time, I will look at the original obit to see if there is any additional information. It might be a while. I have my 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter visiting me for 4-5 days, for I probably won't get anything done except looking after her. Jan

I haven't a clue as to how either of these 2 folks fit into the Buffington & Gentzler familiy trees, so if anyone out there knows and can clue me in I'd appreciate it. Keith, In response to your request to all for USPS address-- After May 4, ours will no longer be Seattle, rather: 25 Bristol Lane, Palm Coast, FL 32137. (The NW is LOVELY, but after 20 & 30 years respectively we've had our fill of gloomy weather year-round and traffic that's constantly gridlocked.) Our e-mail address will remain the same. Dear Louisa County list, I've been busy going over the lookup requests you have made since I offered to go through the Heritage Center index cards. I have provided all responders with the names and addresses of others who are interested in the surnames that you requested searches for, except a couple of surnames such as Brown and Johnson/Johnston. I have already had to create some 60 new folders and cards for new surnames that were not in my index. In addition, I have added almost 200 names to the existing index surname cards that you or the responders have expressed an interest in. Your help is now needed--a reverse request. Many visitors to our Heritage Center and many query writers have not been, are not yet, and will never be computer users. I have had to identify most of you by your e-mail address. I do not know your name and snail mail address to place on the index cards. This will limit the number of responses that you could potentially receive, as e-mail addresses become out-dated much faster than your postal addresses do. My specific request is in the next paragraph. For this request, I waive my usual practice of asking that you respond to all. Respond to me only if you have reservations about posting your name and address to the entire list. Thank you. PLEASE SEND ME YOUR NAME AND POST OFFICE ADDRESS!! I will then place it in the file folder that has been created for all of you who have made a look-up request. A copy of your request and a copy of my response will also be in the folder. Some requests have generated responses from other list members, and a copy of most of those responses will also be in your folder. The surnames in which you expressed an interest will have their own index cards to refer researchers to your folder, where your name and postal address will be found. At present, your e-mail address is there, on both the copy of your request and on my response to it. By sending me your postal address, and by my placing a copy of it in your folder, you are not restricting research responses to computer users only. Anyone who personally researches or requests local researchers to use the index files may be able to contact you when they find a surname in common. THANK YOU!!!!!!!! Linda, I'll send G. W. Cross' discharge to you as soon as I can. We only have the county of birth, but that might be the most important. IF there are birth records in Indiana at that time, it may give his parents names. You might want to visit the local Family History Center to find out to what type of records may be available on microfilm from that county. You may even want to order the census from that county for a year just past his birth, from the Family History Center. Or, try your local library, or genealogical society, to search one of the following books: Ancestry's Red Book, Everton's Handy Book for The Genealogist, United States County Courthouse Address Book by Leland Meitzler, The County Courthouse Book by Elizabeth Petty Bentley. You might also be able to find out the address and where to write through one of the many genealogy sites on the internet. There are many, many sources on the internet for guidance in genealogy. There may even be a website for that county. Genealogy is a giant jigsaw puzzle. That's what keeps people interested! Jan
Are these 2 different cemeteries.. the Linn Grove Cemetery and the Letts and Turkington cemetery or are they called by the same name. Also,is anyone on here related or searching the WORLEY family.I have a Lillie Smith(1873-1947, her mother was a Paxson) married to a Louis M.Worley(died 1939)-would like to connect with descendants. thanks... The probates are kept in the clerk of court's office...same address. Phone: 319-523-4541. They will probably not do a search. If you get a negative response, let us know and we can check on it for you. Vital records and land records are kept in the recorder's office. It is the Listowner's responsibility to occasionally repost the dos and don'ts of using this mailing list. As listowner of the IALOUISA-L, I encourage "tolerance" if someone makes a single error. We all have our weak moments. I am not a schoolteacher with ruler in hand. I am here to guide and help you not to chastize you on nitpicking minor matters. I have little tolerance for intolerant people. Repeat offenders will be reminded by the "LISTOWNER" . May I ask you to NOT police the mailing list. That responsibility belongs to the Listowner alone. Do not send spam e-mail messages to mailing lists. Do not send attachments (attached files) of any sort to mailing lists. This includes URL shortcuts, v-cards, GEDCOM files, zipped files, and any other type of attachment. Do not forward virus hoaxes or chain letters to mailing lists. Do not use HTML or RTF (rich text format) in messages sent to mailing lists. Do not cross-post messages to multiple mailing lists on the "To:" line or the "Cc:" line of the e-mail message. Do not send e-mail messages to mailing lists for which the topic is inappropriate. (Our emphasize is on "Louisa County" so all messages should pertain to our county and not other counties.) Do not flame other members of the mailing list. As certain issues or problems arise on your mailing lists, it will be up to the list administrator, to step in and educate (or re-educate) the list subscribers on how to resolve these issues or problems. For example: 1.Subscribers need to know that they shouldn't use any of the following options in e-mail sent to the mailing lists: File attachments (You can send them in private mail) HTML or RTF (rich text format) formatting Signature files wider than 70 characters or longer than 4-5 lines, OR with long lists of surnames. My personal goals are to have a friendly list functioning in a cooperative manner with patience and understanding for all. If you are unhappy with the postings, you have two options, the delete key or the "unsubscribe" function. Norma Jennings Listowner, IALOUISA-L mailing list.

If you want your descendants 100 years form now to see those photos, you should be taking them in black and white. Color photos are not very archivally safe. They say they only last about one generation. Yesterday Dana and I went out to find headstones of our relatives and discovered some problems and joys with our cemeteries. The Wapello Cemetery had many headstones which had broken off their bases, buried headstones, and some had headstones just laying on the ground near where trees had been removed. The Cairo-Fulton Cemetery had some of the same damage. We found headstones that had a first name & dates, but no surname so we can only guess who was buried there. My grandmother had a sister who died at 10 yrs.old and all references listed her buried as Twila Sapp 1924-1934, we discovered Twila M. 1924-1934 doesn't have a surname on her headstone. A brother died at birth, could this be the little white headstone that only says INFANT across the top? And the Harrison Cemetery, it was well kept, clean, and very serene. This is where my husbands family is buried. All headstones clearly marked so it was easy to tell who was buried in a lot. It's easy to see that some families are never forgotten and some are never remembered. Sad but true. I took pictures of my families headstones so in 100 yrs. my great grandchildren won't be searching for headstones that may be gone. It gave Dana and I a chance to get out and see some of the countryside as I use to do with my grandparents when I was a child. This summer we will be visiting many of the cemeteries in Louisa Co. and taking pictures (Dana's favorite hobby), so if you would like a picture of a headstone or family plot just let me know. Vicki
Steve, Have you contacted Gary James, pentaby@alltel.net? In recent correspondence to the IALOUISA-L list, he indicated that he already knew quite a bit about the Hankins name. Also, my husband's aunt, Mary Evelyn Hoehle Ballanger married Leon Thomas Hankins, April 8, 1934, in Muscatine, IA. Leon is the son of Charles T. Hankins, and Grace Carriel. Jan
