    2. "The Evangelical and Reformed Historical Society," is located at 555 West James Street, Lancaster, PA. Ph. (717) 290-8711. They have been very helpful to me and to my knowledge don't have a set fee; I gave a $25.00 donation however I had a lot of research to request. I suggest you write them first with your question to receive their research procedure at the present. The Reformed Church is now the United Church of Christ. Margery Borger Sacramento, CA

    3. Margaret, I'm sending the obit and WPA cemetary listings in today's mail. I will also include a brochure that describes the LCGS, membership, etc. Your membership fee should be sent to LCGS, P. O. Box 202, Wapello, IA 52653. You will be included on our mailing list for newsletters. The "Peel family folder" at the LC Historical Society library, is a list of real estate transactions. Do you want that? Keith Street is maintaining a list of inquiries. If you contact him, he will give you the names of any others, if any, who are researching the PEEL, SPAFFORD, or WILCOX names. The obituary and cemetary sources are the only ones I looked at. If I find any other information, about these families, I will let you know. You can contact Henry Co., at IAHENRY-L@rootsweb.com Jan -----Original Message----- From: MARGARET STONE <eMARGARET@webtv.net> To: IALOUISA-L@rootsweb.com <IALOUISA-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, May 02, 2000 12:42 AM Subject: Re: Peel and Spafford -lookups Dear Janice, Thank you so very much !!! 3. Dear Margaret, I have an obituary for John E. A. Peel, from the Morning Sun News-Herald, Dec. 21, 1911, page 4. It is rather lengthy, so I would prefer sending it to you by regular mail. I also copied pages from the WPA cemetary listings for the Peel, and Spafford names. This may of be of use to you, also. Please tell me your address, and I will get these in the mail right away. As for charges, the LCGS charges a minimum of $8 for one hour research. If you are a member, we usually do it as a courtesy, plus photocopying and postage fees. Membership is $5 for a single. 3. Jill, The only Hartman I found in 1897, was "Mr. Hartman, died July 24, 1897. Wapello Republican, July 29, 1897. The obit reads as follows: "BARD". Two of our homes are in the dark gloom of death. Old Mr. Hartman died at his home near here last Saturday evening. He was struck speechless on Wednesday by paralysis and remained so until death relieved him. He has lived here about 30 years and leaves quite a number of children, three of whom were at his bedside when he died. Services were held in the German church at this place by Rev. Zimmerman of Wapello, after which his remains were laid to rest in the Wapello cemetary." I did not locate anything for Hannah. There was no information on either one in the Portrait and Biographical Album, 1889. If you want the microfilm copy, send an SASE to Janice Hoehle, P. O. Box 103, Wapello, IA 52653. -

    3. Steve, The Wapello Intelligencer has about six months of 1860. I don't remember which months. This microfilm is available at the Wapello Library. I don't know if it is available for interlibrary loan. I looked through it to see if I could find anything on Francis Harrison, several weeks ago, but was unsuccessful. (Of course, given the quality of the microfilm, It's entirely possible I could have missed it.) Hope you find his death date someday. Jan

    2. Steve Harrison
    3. What Louisa County newspapers are in existence for 1860's and where are they kept? I am looking for a death notice or obituary for FRANCIS HARRISON. He is buried in the Lettsville cemetery and his headstone (according to WPA cemetery list) had 1802-1860. He appears in the 1860 census of Louisa County taken on or about July 23, 1860. There are no death, will, or probate records with the county. The county tax list indicates he owned personal property but no real property in 1860. (He does not appear in the 1861 county tax list). Therefore, I am guessing he died between July-December 1860. Other than newspapers, does anybody have any suggestions of other sources for my research to establish a more specific death date?
