Beatrice Stone was born Nov. 11, 1944, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Sherman and Lilly Mae (Christopher) Stone. Bea Gabel married Walter Aspelmeier on May 27, 1994, in Silvis. She worked as a waitress and hostess for more than 25 years at Villiage Inn in Davenport and Moline. She enjoyed dancing, sewing, and crafts. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Gilda's Club or to Pathway Hospice. For several years he was the street commissioner in Winfield and lived in Columbus Junction while working in the Quad Cities at John Deere. Survivors include two sons, Walter of East Moline, Illinois, and Forrest of Burlington; three daughters Mrs. Donald (Pauline) Stapp of Columbus Junction, Mrs. Donald (Frances) Smith of Pekin, Illinois, and Mrs. Woodrow (Carol) Skains of Houston, Texas; 18 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. She graduated from Columbus High, Columbus Juncton, Iowa, in 1963. She later attended the University of Iowa, receiving a secretarial degree. Kathy was the secretary at Zion Lutheran Church since 1992. Previously she had worked at Carver Pump and Mapco in Muscaine, CDS in Wilton and the Wilton Community Schools. Kathy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Wilton, and the Wilton American Legion Auxillary. For may years she devoted her time to the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of Wilton. She enjoyed her work at Zion; for her, painting was a joy; she enjoyed reading, cleaning and above all, her children and grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Wilton. A wake service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Zion Lutheran Church. Services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Inturnment will take place at the Columbus City Cemetery, Columbus Junction. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband Gordon of Wilton, and their children; Julie and her husband Corey Jacobs, St. Mary's, GA., Janine Arnold, Wilton, and Jason Arnold, Irvine, Calif.; three grandchildren; Brandon, Lauren and Cecelia; and her sister Genevieve and her husband Larry Scott, Dahlonega, Ga. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction, with the Rev. Cathy Whitlatch of the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church officiating. Pallbearers were Gayle Williams, Kent Williams, Myron Williams, Dick Lohse, Dell Reighard and Donnie Snavely. Visitation was held Friday evening at Lunning Chapel in Burlington and also at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial followed in Columbus City Cemetery. Following the committal service, a time of food and fellowship was held at the Spring Run United Methodist Church, rural Columbus Junction. Memorials may be directed to the Burlington Hospice and sympathy notes may be left to the Aringdale family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. Miss Aringdale was born Sept. 25, 1930, in Louisa County, the daughter of Frank Harris and Eunice Dorothy Metzger Aringdale. She was a graduate of Columbus Community High School and a member of Spring Run United Methodist Church. She lived on the family farm until moving to Mount Pleasant in 1968 where she worked as a telephone operator for more than 20 years until her retirement in 1990. She enjoyed embroidering, gardening and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Survivors include her brother, Robert Aringdale and wife Mary of Burlington;her sister, Evelyn Williams and husband Rex of Birmingham; and many cousins, including Helen Aringdale of Columbus Junction. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Thursday,December 13, at the Stacy-Lewis Chapel. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery. Visitation will begin Wednesday noon. Memorials will be given to the Columbus City United Methodist Church. The daughter of Charles and Ella Shook Aringdale, she was born August 8, 1893, in rural Columbus Junction. She had been a member of the Spring Run Evangelical Church and later transferred her membership to the Columbus City United Methodist Church where she was also a charter member of the United Methodist Women. She had formerly been a children's Sunday School teacher in both churches. She was a former assistant postmaster at the Columbus City Post Office for approximately 15 years. She is survived by two brothers, Fred Aringdale of Columbus Junction and Frank Aringdale of Mt. Casket bearers were Olin Jennings, Leo Finke, Chan Williams, Edward Massey, Marshal Rose and William Oakes. Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery. Mrs. Aringdale was born April 8, 1894, at Carington, North Dakota, the daughter of Peter and Katherine Pepple Johnson. After graduating from Pleasanton High School, she was employed at the post office there. On June 24, 1917, she married Harry Millard Smith at Carrington, after which they moved to Columbus Junction. He died February 16, 1962. She married Fred Aringdale on March 19, 1979, at Washington. She was of the Methodist faith. her hobbies were art and craft work and raising flowers. She passed away at her home five miles south of Columbus Junction on July 5, 1961 after an extended illness at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 17 days. She was married April 2, 1902 to William G. Harter of Crawfordsville, Iowa. To this union were born two children, Mrs. Charlie Anderson of Columbus Junction and Harold Franklin Harter who was killed in action in Okinawa May 8, 1945. Mr. Harter passed away March 7, 1922. On March 19, 1931 she was married to Fred E. Aringdale at Hamilton, Illinois. Since her first marriage she had continued to live in Louisa county. She was of the Prebyterian faith and was a Gold Star Mother. Besides the daughter and husband she is survived by one brother, Charles F. Summers of Omaha, Nebraska and four grandchildren, Mrs. Marshal Rose of Crawfordsville, Iowa, Mrs. Milton Simon of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Mr. Michael Harter of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Mr. Harold Harter of Harlingen, Texas and by three great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one grandchild, two brothers and four sisters. Funeral services were held at the Stacy Funeral Home in Columbus Junction at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 8, and were attended by a large number of relatives and friends. Dr. Chester E. Chandler, pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Winfield, was the officiating clergyman. Organ music was played by Mrs. B.O. Roundy. Flower attendants were Miss Doris Aringdale and Mrs. Arlene Reighard. Casket bearers were Leo Finke, Virgil Hall, Ralph Wilson, Howell Owens, Olin Jennings and Alfred Williams. Burial will be in the Ash Grove Cemetery, Windsor, Illinois, Thursday, May 21 at 11:00 a.m. with military rites. Visitation was held Sunday afternoon at the funeral home with the family present from 3-5 p.m. Rev. Armstrong died Thursday, May 14, 1998 at Burlington Medical Center, Burlington, Iowa. A memorial has been established at the funeral home. Elmer Arthur Armstrong was born October 23, 1943 in Shelby county, near Tower Hill, Illinois to Arthur Albert and Anna May Girard Armstrong. He married Sharon R. Sims, December 23, 1964 in Windsor, Illinois. Elmer Armstrong was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the Marine Corp. He was a Boy Scout Leader in the community for several years. Elmer was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt mushrooms. Rev. Elmer Armstrong had been Pastor at the Pleasant Grove Community Church, Columbus Junction from 1974 until 1989. Elmer is survived by his wife, Sharon, Columbus Junction; two daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Darren (Tina) Hartman, Conesville and Tara Armstrong, at home, Columbus Junction.
