    2. My husband's great grandfather died in 1869 in Morning Sun, Iowa. We live in Kansas, a long way from there. I need to find a willing genealogist who could go to the county courthouse to get a copy of the probate of his will. It is listed in the index on the Louisa County genealogy website. We have been searching for a long time for information about this gentleman. **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! Fisher Passed away Friday After Long Illness--Funeral Largely Attended Mrs. Ed Fisher, well known and beloved resident of this community, passed away last Friday morning at her home in this city, death ending an illness of many months duration. Frances Carlisle Oates, daughter of Ben and Mary Oates, was born in Louisa county, Iowa, August 3, 1870, and passed from this life at her home in Wapello, Iowa, March 21, 1930, at the age of 59 years, 7 months and 18 days. She was a resident of Louisa county practically all her life, having spent only a few years in Minnesota and Missouri. She was a teacher in the rural schools of the county for nine years. Fanny Oates was united in marriage to Edward Fisher December 30, 1896. To this union were born five children, one of whom died in infancy and four of whom survive. They are: Mrs. Gloria Lowe and Max Fisher, both of Columbus Junction, Iowa, and Mrs. Rolla Cover and Kenneth Fisher, of Wapello, Iowa. Mrs. Fisher united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in young womanhood and continued a faithful member of the church until death. In her home she proved herself a good mother and blessed her children with memories that will hallow their days. In the last hours of her life she spoke confidently of her belief that she was "nearer home" and said that she was prepared to go. Her thoughts were of God and His word, which she wished read to her. She leaves to mourn her going her husband and four children mentioned above, five grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. W.M. McCullough, of Searsbord, Iowa; two brothers, W.T. Oates, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Ben Oates, of Winfield, Kansas, besides a number of nephews and nieces and a host of friends. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and the large number in attendance testified to the esteem in which she was held in the community. Rev. C.E. Burdine read the 31st chapter of Proverbs, her favorite chapter, and offered prayer, and the sermon was delivered by her pastor, Rev. R.J. Arms. He based the theme of his discourse on the text from Proverbs 31:10: "Who can find a virtuous woman, for her price is far above rubies." Philip Reutinger, Mrs. A.J. Williamson, Miss Josephine Reutinger and Fred Wehmeyer, with Mrs. Warren Wiederrecht as accompanist, sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder," and "In the Sweet By and By," these numbers having been requested by Mrs. Fisher in her last illness. The pallbearers were: W.H. Hurley, Ed Eversmeyer, G.O. Foor, H.W. Baker, A.J. Williamson and George Wilson. Interment was made in the Wapello cemetery. While you, dear mother, safely sleep; Away from sorry and care, We are lonely and oftimes weep For we miss you everywhere Rest in peace, O dear mother. Wapello Republican, Thursday, March 27, 1930

Joseph Carlisle, a long time resident and highly respected citizen of Illinois City, died without warning or illness on May 20, 1919. Thus came to an end a life which had known its share of sunshine and shadows; a life that was nobly and unselfishly given to the happiness of others. Born in East Liverpool, Columbiana county, Ohio, March 6th, 1841, he went with his father's family to Maysville, Ky., from which place they removed to Covington, Ky, where bereavement came to their home and took away his father. When deceased was seven years of age, his mother and her five children made their way back to New Lisbon, Ohio. A short time after the mother found a home for little Joe with a farmer by the name of Andrew Brinker, with whom he lived until he was eighteen. In 1860 he attended an academy at Damascovill, Ohio. In 1861 he was a student at the Western Reserve Electric Institute of Hiram, Portage county, Ohio, of which school James A Garfield was president. On March 15, 1862, he enlisted in the 12th U.S. Infantry at Springfield, Ill., and took an honorable part in all of the engagements in which this regiment participated, including The Wilderness and Spotsylvania Court House. He was taken prisoner near Spotsylvania Court House on May 10, 1864, reached Andersonville prison May 25 on the 12th of September was removed to Florence, S.C., from which place he made his escape Sept. 15, was recaptured October 1, and made a second escape by cutting a hole through a box car, reaching the Union lines on Dec. 12, at Belle Plain, East Tenn. Traveling from Belle Plain to Washington, D.C., he was stationed at Elmyra, N.Y., doing guard duty over seven thousand Rebel prisoners. He reported to his regimental commander again on January 1, 1865. Received an honorable discharge March 15, 1865, term of enlistment having expired. Was a student of telegraphy at Oberlin, Ohio, in 1865. Coming west, deceased was married to Miss Fannie J. Twigg of Louisa County, Iowa, in 1868. To this union three children were born. Dr. Carlisle of Diagonal, Iowa, and Mrs. Gail Gurtner of Denver, Colorado, one child having died in infancy. He was married again in 1904 to Mrs. Fannie Martin who, with his two children remain to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father. The entire community where he has lived for many years think of him as a personal friend and his relatives and near neighbors, those who knew him best, will long remember the pure life that was lived among them, and we of a younger generation with deep gratitude in our hearts, stand with bared heads and tear-dimmed eyes as one by one the Old Guard marches by into that Great Beyond. Let us resolve to keep alive in memory their deeds of valor for feedom's cause by placing the choicest flowers on their graves. Funeral services were held at Illinois City, and the remains were brought to Wapello Monday and buried in the cemetery there. Wapello Republican, Thursday, May 29, 1919
