She married Paul L. Tomson on May 5, 1957 at Burlington. Nellie had worked at the Blue Bell factory at Bushnell, Sylvania at Burlington, the Wapello Nursing Home, and then retired with 27 years from Thatcher Plastics at Muscatine. She enjoyed camping, gardening, and the many family activities. She was an avid collector of Beanie Babies, pencils, magnets, and Tolls, Etc. Her family includes her husband, Paul; three daughters, Phyllis & Omar Connolly of Wapello, Gale & Bob Barrick of Wapello, and Judy Strahan of Galesburg, Illinois; a son, Joe Tomson of Wapello; twelve grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Anna & James Blythe of Burlington, Jane & Don Carnes of Media, Illinois, and Verna Lantz of Bushnell, Illinois; and two brothers, Harold & Sharon Feikert of Bushnell, and Lloyd & Joyce Feikert of LaHarpe, Illinois. She was a Speech Therapist having taught in California and Missouri and more recently as an Assisted Technology Specialist with AEA #13 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She had loved her dogs greatly and was active with the ASPCA. Upon returning to Wapello she had volunteereed at the nursing home by reading to the residents. Renee is survived by her parents, Tom and Jolene Pogemiller of Wapello; a brother, Randy & Connie Pogemiller of Iowa City; a niece, Sheila & Peter Davisson of Iowa City; and a nephew, Michael Pogemiller & Julie Brown of Miami, Florida. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. The funeraql ceremony for Renee Pogemiller will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at the grandview Community Bible Church at Grandview, with Rev. Darryl Erickson officiating. A daughter, Mrs. Merle (Dorothy) Van Auken of Muscatine; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a brother, Dale Sill of Omaha, Nebraska, survive.

She graduated from Arispe High School in 1953, and attended Simpson College. She married Marvin D. Austin on Aug. 26, 1956, at Arispe. She was a homemaker and had been a substitute teacher and a special aide for a sudent in the Wapello School District. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wapello. She collected buttons, and enjoyed yard sales and antique trading. She centered her live around her family, the grandchildren being very special. Survivors include her husband; a son, Sgt. Harlan W. Winter officiating. Music was provided by Bev Parsons as the organist and Alana Poage singing "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." The pallbearers included Brandon Austin, Jon Austin, Jeff Austin, Joe Ross, Jerry Weis and Ron Adams. The honorary bearers were the rest of the grandchildren, Drake Austin, Orrin Lanz, Vienna Lanz, Austin Lanz, Adrian Lanz, Jake Sinclair and Luke Sinclair. Burial followed at the Wapello Cemetery. He was the son of David and Sarah Reed Austin and was born March 29, 1867. He was married Nov. 27, 1901 to Ella Hopkins of Monmouth, Ill., who survives. Also verviving are two sons and three daughters; Lloyd Austin of Morning Sun; Harold Austin, Mrs. Maurine Berkhoff and Mrs. Pauline Hayes, all of Wapello; and Mrs. Fern Heckenberg of Burlington. Also surviving are eitht grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A son and 12 brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 24 at the Dudgeon Funeral Home at 2:00 o'clock. The Rev. Orville Carter of Quincy, Ill., officiated and burial was in Wapello Cemetery.

She could be seen all dressed up in her Red Hat as she socialized with the Red Hatter's club of DeKalb. She died September 20, 1987. He had farmed in the Morning Sun area and was a lifetime member of the Farm Bureau.
