He was born February 12, 1905 in Wapello, Iowa to Kate H. (Pierce) and Horace William Baker. He grew up in Wapello and attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City. He married A. Marie Archibald on Dec. 31, 1924 in Fort Madison, Iowa. After their marriage they resided in the state of Iowa where he attended Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa, and then was employed as a county office supply salesman. He retired in June 1980. They moved to Chippewa Falls in May 1982. He had been a resident of the Golden Age Home since June 1987. He is survived by his daughter, Kathrene (Joseph) Mandelert of Chippewa Falls; a granddaughter, Julie Korpady, Madison; a grandson, James Mandelert, Chippewa Falls; and one great-grandson, Mitchell Pierce Mandelert. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Aug. 14, 1987; and three brothers, Kenneth, Vern and William Baker. A funeral service was held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, with the Rev. Barry Boyer of First Presbyterian Church officiating. He died Wednesday, June 29, 1960, in Murphy Memorial hospital here after an illness of about three months. Mr. Ruge had been employed by the Express since 1947 and before that had lived in Churdan, Bagley and Coon Rapids. The son of Dr. and Mrs. William A Ruge, he was born Dec. 29, 1912 at Churdan and was married at Wapello, June 10, 1940, to Leona A. Plumb, who survives. Burial will be in Wapello Cemetery. Mrs. Plumb died Thursday June 1, 1955 at Wapello Nursing and Care Center. She taught 15 years in rural Louisa County and later tutored students several years in her home. Hazel Matson married Leonard Plumb June 10, 1915 in Morning Sun. He died Dec 18, 1973. She was a graduate of the former Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. Mrs. Plumb was a member of First United Presbyterian Church Chapter 257, Order of Eastern Star, both of Wapello; Royal Neighbors of America; Louisa County Retired Teachers Association; and Wapello Senior Citizens. The funeral services were held from the Michael school house conducted by Rev. J. W. Hamilton and the remains laid to rest in the Port Louisa Cemetery. Her husband, two sons, two brothers, four sisters and five grandchildren preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Leo A. Plumb, Wapello; her daughter, Mrs. Wehmeyer; two brothers, Ben H. He enjoyed cars including his 1905 Olds, 1929 Buick, and the 1951 and 1959 Ford Convertibles. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello. Lila graduated from Houston High School and attended Winona State College at Winona, Minnesota. She taught schools in northern Iowa for several years. She was a homemaker and a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello. She is survived by her son, Jim & Desiree Belzer of Columbus, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Eric & Jill Belzer and Erin & Mark Kistler; and four great grandchildren, Thomas and Charlie Kistler and Brianne and Brett Belzer. She preceded him in death on May 9, 2003. Hilbert attended Prairie Point grade school and attended Huron school the first year of its opening. He was a farmer and loved to garden and share his produce with others. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed visiting with his many family and friends of the Oakville community. He was a member of the Church of God Holiness at Oakville which he helped in building the original church. He is survived by two sons, David & Minnie Whitaker and Dale & Kathie Whitaker both of Oakville; six grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; and a half sister, Edna Whitaker. Hello - I saw this obit for a REIF. I have a WOLFART in Lancaster Co PA who married a David REIFF. Is this the same bunch? They are buried in a Mennonite Cemetery in Adams Co PA just west of Gettysburg. We have a huge Reiff family history at the York Co Heritage Trust. Grace was a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello, the UMW which she had served as President, the Wapello Study Club, the Louisa County Farm Bureau Women where she held offices, Order of Eastern Star #257 at Wapello, the neighborhood Pine Grove Club, and the Louisa County Federated Club where she had served as Chairman. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and an infant daughter. Friends may call after noon on Sunday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello where the family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral ceremony for Grace Reif will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 22, 2008, at the United Methodist Church at Wapello, officiated by Rev. Scott Smith. Grace Louella Reif, age 92, of Wapello, died Tuesday evening, September 16, 2008, at the Klein Center of Great River Medical Center in Burlington. The daughter of Oscar and Jennie Martin Obermann, she was born on January 24, 1916, at Middletown. Grace married Floyd D. Reif on June 8, 1939 at Middletown. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2003. Grace attended country school and graduated from Danville High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and then taught in country schools in Lee and Henry Counties for five years before she was married. With her husband they farmed near Danville, then near Mt. Union, and then coming to Wapello in 1954. She love gardening and sewing. Rd H-22 also known as the K-Road, Mediapolis, was killed in a tractor accident on his farm on Wednesday, August 27, 2008. He was born on the family farm on April 30, 1938, the son of Raymond 'Bud' and Josephine Hunt McIntyre. Dwight enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren, Danielle, McKayla, and Brendan. He married Carol Jean Person on April 30, 1966 at the Fairview Church. They have made their home on the K-Road for the last 37 years. They have two children, Wayne and his wife Cathy of Oakville and Lori who shares the home with her parents. He has a brother, Rome McIntyre of Peoria, Illinois and an aunt, Gertie Cassabaum who lives on his parents' farmstead. Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Ann Vahle; aunts and an uncle. Dwight went to the Fairview Country School and graduated from Wapello High School in 1956. He had served in the US Army during the early 1960's. He worked for Louisa County driving a road grader before going into farming with his father. He took his family for many summer vacations to Elkader to go trout fishing along with special friends Ron and Carolyn Tisor. He was a man who never knew a stranger and he always had a smile on his face and an easy laugh. He enjoyed gradening, picking blackberries, and canning vegetables. He had attended the Fairview Church and was a member of the Farm Bureau. The funeral ceremony for Dwight McIntyre will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello with Rev. Beth Briggs officiating. John William Hupp, age 87 of Wapello, died Saturday morning, September 6, 2008, at the Great River Medical Center at West Burlington. The son of Frank and Olive Masters Hupp, he was born on December 9, 1920 at Morning Sun. He married Darlene Beatrice Todd on February 23, 1947 at Yarmouth, Iowa. She preceded him in death on April 20, 2008. John graduated from Wapello High School. He enlisted in the US Navy after the Pearl Harbor Attack and proudly served on the USS Nevada. He farmed south of Wapello. He had also worked as a carpenter with Askren & Nelson and had sold model homes. John was a member of the United Methodist Church and Methodist Men at Wapello, the Methodist District Building Committee, the Kiwanis Club of Wapello, REC Board of Directors, and one of the original members of the Louisa County Historical Society. He was will known in Eastern Iowa for his beautiful handmade rugs. He also enjoyed woodworking and also designed and made many tools that were used on the farm. John is survived by three sons, Glen & Roxanne Hupp of Wever, Dale & Linda Hupp of Riverdale, and Evan & Julie Hupp of Ely; a daughter-in-law, Jeannie Hupp of Unionville, Virginia; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Wanda Harris of Morning Sun. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darlene; a son, Gene; and two sisters, Francis Robertson and Edna Hinds. The funeral ceremony for John Hupp will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at the United Methodist Church at Wapello with Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. On Wednesday morning, August 27, 2008, the angels took Wanda Lou Marshall, age 77, of Wapello to a greater place. Her love of family will be greatly missed. She was the daughter of Jack and Mary Sellers Lihs and was born on March 26, 1931 at Cairo, Iowa. She married Billy George Marshall on April 1, 1950 at Grand Junction, Kansas. Wanda graduated from Wapello High School in 1948. She was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband at the Hyway Pantry, Colonial Daycare, Dairy Bar, Laundromat, and the NAPA store all in Wapello. She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello and the UMW for thirty years with the Mary Circle. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of the Glenn Allen Post 5166 at Wapello and had served as a President and Vice-President of the American Legion in Germany for three years. She had also been a Girl Scot and Boy Scot Leader. She leaves behind her husband of 58 and a half years, Billy George; two daughters, Diana & David Foor of Wapello and Debbie & Don Hollingsworth of Wapello; a son, Billy & Cindy Marshall of Wapello; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy Lowary of Stratford, Iowa and Baja Brown of Princeton, Iowa; and two brothers, Jackie Lihs of Winfield and Donnie Lihs of Columbus Junction. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Pat Samuels and Shirley Leasch; and a brother, Dean Lihs.
