She was the daughter of Elmer and Christian Walker Bazel, born July 23, 1901 on a farm north of Yarmouth, Iowa. The family then moved to a farm west of Morning Sun in 1904. She attended County School for her formal education. Mrs. Dickson worked in a millinery store for Mrs. Smiley in Morning sun and then in 1929 she started to work in the Dry Goods Store for L.D. rohlfing. She married Robert Dickson April 8, 1943. He preceded her in death in 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 6 sisters and 2 brothers. Surviving are 8 nieces and nephews: Margaret Patterson, Ault, Colorako; Robert McElhinney, Morrison, Ill.; Lola Lundin, New London, Ia.; Viola Schenk, St. Charles, Mo.; Beaulah Sellers, Ottawa, Ill.; Norman Pogemiller, Des Moines, Ia.; Leroy Pogemiller, Kansas City, Mo.; Shirley Heitmeier, Morening Sun, Ia. Mrs. Dickson was a member of the United Methodist Church, W.S.C.S., American Legion Auxiliary, Lioness Club, Home Club, and the Sorosis Club. For many years she was the local Poppy Chairwoman, as well as local unit president and county president. For many years she covered dozens of Christmas boxes for the use of Veterans in the Mental Health Facility in Mr. Pleasant. A memorial for her has been established. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Tom Zeleny, Monday, August 24, 1987 at 10:30 a.m. at Pierce Funeral Home in Morning Sun, with burial in the Elmwood Cemetery.

He was a member of the Crewfordsville Lions Club and was involved with the Loiisa County Pork Producers and the Farm bureau. He served on the Wyman School Board and was on the board of directors of the People's Savings Bank in Crawfordsville. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Gomer Davis, Robert Davis and Dallas Davis, all of Crawfordsville; one daughter, Margaret Patterson, Columbus Junction; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The service for Mr. Davis was held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Salem Welch Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the Cambrian Cemetery. A memorial has been established.

He married Verna R. Thomas April 28, 1946, at Cairo. He was a 1944 graduate of the Wapello High School and an Army veteran of World War II. He moved to Burlington in 1953 when he became employed at the firm now known as McGladrey and Pullen. He became a certified public accountant in 1958, was made a partner in 1959, and retired as the senior tax partner in 1989. Mr. Baird was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Burlington, a member of the Explorer Mariners of the church, the Jaycees of Burlington, the American Institute of CPAs and the Iowa Society of CPAs, a former member of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, and had been a past president of the Rotary International of Burlington and the Burlington Library Board. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling and traveling. Survivors include his wife, Verna; four daughters, Candy Stineman of Winfield, Phyllis Baird of Denver, Colo., Becky Wear of Burlington, and Jennifer Baird of Davenport; one son, Kevin Baird of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren; and one brother, Stan Baird of Blue Lake, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call as they desire from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis. He was born November 25, 1909 at Oakville, Iowa the son of John L. and Jennie Owens Campbell. On December 4, 1931 he married Phronia Wonders at Monmouth, Illinois. Kermit had farmed and during WWII worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant at Burlington and then worked for 30 years for the Farmers Elevator and Exchange at Wapello. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello. Kermit Campbell is survived by his wife, Phronia; one daughter, Clara (Mrs. Roger) Ault of Princeton, Illinois; one son Darrel of Burlington; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Curran of Yarmouth and Mary Godwin of Wapello; and one brother Paul of Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Nellie, one son Lynn, one granddaughter Alice McElhiney, one sister Bessie Ray and one brother Kenneth. She enjoyed gardening, and helping on the farm, cooking, nature, nursing home residents, her grandchildren, sports, crafts, and making people laugh with her clever wit. Survivors include a daughter, Hazel Anderson of Columbus Junction; two sons, Harold E. Boysen of Morning Sun, and Larry Boysen of Wapello; six grandchildren, David Boysen, Rhonda Pritchard, Brenda Wade, Aaron Boysen, Duane Boysen, and Adam Boysen; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Humphreys of Columbus Junction, and Verlee Stewart of Burlington; and two brothers, Ronald Fletcher of Grants, N.M., and Feryl Fletcher of Los Angeles, Calif. He married Edna Courtney in July 1919. He farmed in the Winfield community. She died Dec. 24, 1946. He married Vada Allworth April 15, 1954. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, one sister, two sons, James and Sharron and Albert Michael. Surviving are his wife Vada; two daughters, Mrs. Joan Miller of North English, Mrs. Bonnie Jem of Metamore, Ill.; four sons, Forrest M. of Davenport, Leland of Milan, Ill., Patrick of Hilliard, Ohio; a stepdaughter Maxine Fisher of Mediapolis; and a stepson Burton Allworth of Wapello and a sister Mrs. Audrey Foster of Mount Union.

He was born Aug. 8, 1894, the son of son of Cleaver and Fanny Nichols Pontzius. He married Feb. 27, 1932 at Wapello to Exie Bazel. Survivors include his widow, daughter Mrs. Shirley Heitmier of Morning Sun; three grandchildren; brothers Frank of Denver, Col., Thomas of Mediapolis; Howard of Wapello, Albert of Wapello, and a sister, Audrey Foster of Camp Verde, Ariz. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery at Morning Sun.

John Harold Davis, the son of Humphrey and Mabel (McBride) Davis, was born July 22, 1918, at Cotter, Iowa. He married Maryella Duncan on September 27, 1941, in Missouri. John Harold had been a lifelong farmer in the area. In addition, he had worked for Harris Construction until his retirement in 1990. John Harold had been a member of the Columbus Cit Masonic Lodge #107 A.F. & A.M., the Davenport Consistory and the Kaaba Shrine. Survivors include his wife, Maryella, of Columbus Junction; a daughter, Rozanne Petrick and her husband, Larry, Mt. Vernon, Iowa and two sons, Brian Davis, Columbus Junction and Don Davis, Cedar Rapids. There are six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Martha Thode, Columbus Junction. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Davis. Visitation and Masonic Rites were held Thursday evening at the funeral home. Funeral services were held October 22 at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home. Rev. James Edwards officiated. Honorary Pallbearers were Bob Harris, Kenny Peters, Jake Davis, Dick Pugh, Cleo Orris, Bill Peters and Preston Edmondson. Pallbearers were Bob Stapp, Bob Davis, Mike Pugh, Dennis Tompkins, Dave Fisher and Kirk Duncan. Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetary. A memorial has been established at the funeral home.

Dec 20, 1988 WAPELLO - Harry A. Fletcher, 96, died Sunday night at the Burlington Medical Center, Burlington. Services are Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Young officiating. Burial will be at the Wapello Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Fletcher was born Feb. 6, 1892 in Washington County, Iowa, a son of Roy and Alice Griffith Fletcher. He married Hazel Pearl Jones Nov. 17, 1909 in Columbus Junction. She died Nov. 29, 1965. He was a member of the Wapello I.O.O.F. Lodge. He began his livelihood as a farmer then worked at the Louisa County Engineers office, the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Burlington, was an assessor for Louisa County, worked at the Loiusa County Conservation office and at retirement operated a shop where he sharpened saws. Survivors include two sons, Ronald "Jiggs" of Grants, N.M.; and Feryl of Grenada Hills, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Edward (Dorothy) Humphreys of Crawfordsville; Verlee Stewart of Wapello; Lorena Boysen of Morning Sun; and Ruth Keller of Great Falls, Mont.; 22 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great-granddaughter. She was born March 14, 1920, in Winfield, to Granville and Louise Marie Bahl Randoll. She married Charles D. Garland on Sept. 30, 1939, in Kahoka, Mo. The Garlands farmed in the Morning Sun area. She was of the Methodist faith and a member of the Virginia Grove Club. Surviving are her husband, of the home; three sons, Leland, Wapello, Marvin, Burlington, and Roger, Mediapolis; two sisters, Dorothy Fisher, Sugar Grove, Ill., and Mildred Bozman, Morning Sun; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren. Services for Mrs. Garland will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Morning Sun United Methodist Church, the Rev. Dick Clark officiating; burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the service on Tuesday. The Pierce Funeral Home, Morning Sun, is handling the arrangements.
