On October 14, 1920 she married Robert Raymond Cummings; he died June 13, 1978. She was a member of the Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Church and a member of the Womens Missionary Fellowship. Survivors include; 7 nieces and nephews; 5 brothers and sister-in-laws; Hoyt and Vey Cummings, Morning Sun; Faye Bazel, Morning Sun; Jessie Royer, St. Charles, Missouri; Frances T. Cummings, Burlington. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brother, Curtis and Luther, and 1 sister, Ella. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 29, 1991 at 2:00 p.m. from the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, Morning Sun, with Rev. Robert Schmidtberger officiating. Casket bearers were Jim Pilling, Joe Baird, Maurice McDonald, Alvin Lambert. Flower attendants were Ola Lambert and Marie Woodrow. Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun. A general memorial has been established.

She was born September 12, 1905 at Columbus City, Iowa, the daughter of Homer and Lulu Ann Murray Winder. Florence Winder was a graduate of Wapello High School and attended the University of Iowa. She was the Director of the Louisa County Welfare Office befire her marriage to Richard James "Jim" Cotter On April 19, 1941 in Des Moines, Iowa. Jim and Florence farmed together west of Wapello. He died May 24, 1968. She moved to Greeley in 1987. Florence was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Delta Alpha at Wapello, the Order of Eastern Star #257 of Wapello, the Marshall Township Farm Bureau Women and the Wapello Study Club. Survivors include her daughter, Ann (Mrs. Herb) Schrader of Greeley; two grandsons, Brian Schrader of Austin, Texas, and Kevin Schrader of Greeley; two brothers, Howard Winder of Wapello and Allen Winder of Atlanta, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and one sister, Murray McElhinney. Funeral service for Florence Cotter was held Sundsy, March 3, 1991 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at Wapello with the Rev. George Yetter officiating. Music was provided by Carolyn Bartenhagen as organist and Linda Gipple as voclist. Casket bearers were Frank Jamison, Mike Jamison, Don Williams, Raymond Werner, Melvin Jennings and Myron Jennings. Honorary bearers were Gordon Stone, Kenneth McChesney and Clarence Jennings. Flower attendants were Gwen Gipple, Ruth Abbott and Alene McChesney. Burial followed at the Wapello Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. The family met with friends Saturday evening at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello where an Order of Eastern Star service was held at 7:00 p.m.

Born Oct. 1, 1922, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of Dale and Edna Weinrich Gabeline. On Oct. 25, 1941, she married Donald Jarvis in Yarmouth. Mr. Jarvis was a homemaker. She was a 1941 graduate of Yarmouth High School. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Yarmouth, Women's Christian Fellowship and a 50-year member of Eastern Star, White Star Chapter 388 in Mediapolis. She enjoyed gardening and loved flowers, making bouquets for church and to give to people. She was an excellent cook and was famous for her chocolate pie. She was an accomplished musician, able to play piano, organ, trumpet, guitar and French Harp. She would play the piano at Buff's Restaurant in Mount Pleasant and could play by ear. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Sandra Kolkman of New London; one son, Steven Jarvis of Dallas; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Gabeline of Morning sun; two sisters, Roberta Bliesener of Burlington and JoAnn Waters of Northfork, Calif.; and may nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter and one sister. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Jarvis will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. Ed Davis officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Mount Union. Memorials have been established for the Yarmouth Fire Department and Yarmouth United Church of Christ.

The funeral service for Effie Crammond was held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 1992 at the United Methodist Church at Wapello with the Rev. Ed Philgreen officiating. Kathleen Hagele provided the organ music with Wayne Gieselman as vocalist. A special taped music 'Star of the East' by daughter Joyce Pepper and a friend of hers, Rosemary McCoid, was also presented. The casket bearers were Scot Hunt, Stephen Hunt, John Hunt, Brian Thye, Chris Gerling, Brian Gerling and Jeff Pepper. The flower attendants were Jennie Small and Mary Ann Humiston. Surviving are three sisters, Bessie Bates, Wapello, Nellie Wilson, Morning Sun, and Dorothy Ringer, Sherman, Ill.; three brothers, Marion Blanchard, Forsythe, Mo., Robert Blanchard, Burlington, and Richard Blanchard, Iowa City; 10 nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and nephews; one great-great-niece and one great-great-nephew. she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother. He married Janice Elaine Bloomer at Wapello on June 22, 1947. After graduating from Wapello High School in 1940 he worked as a lineman for AT&T. He then served as a PBY pilot in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. After the war he sold life insurance and worked as a car salesman. Following the years at the Corner Grocery he worked as parts manager at Pine Motor Co. at Wapello, managed the Indian Hills Golf and Country Club, was in service & sales at Pugh Motors of Columbus Junction; and most recently had worked as a security guard at Monsanto Company of Muscatine. Don was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Wapello where he was serving as an elder. He had served on the Wapello School Board for 6 years, the Keck Memorial Library Board for 26 years, was a member of the VFW Glenn Allen Post at Wapello and the American Legion at Columbus Junction, was charter member of the Wapello Development Corporation, was on the founding Board of Directors of Indian Hills Golf and County Club, and had been active in Little League sponsorship and the Athletic Boosters. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and refinishing furniture. Survirors include his wife, Janice; three daughters, Joan (Mrs. Paul) Thompson of Winfield, Mary (Mrs John) White of Mason City, and Martha Brown of Wapello; two sons Greg of Wapello and David at home; seven grandchildren, Clinton and Ashley Brown, Joy, Julie, and Kendra Thompson, and Shelby and Abra White; two sisters, Ora Messer of Watseka, Illinois and Marian Thormann of Ames; and a special friend, Mary Baker of Wapello, who provided a home for Don when he became a teenage orphan. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lela Derby and Dorothy Hutchison; and one brother, Garry Brown. Memorial service for Don Brown was held at First Presbyterian Church at Wapello on Wednesday, October 30, 1991 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Bill Young officiating. Born Oct. 1, 1916, the son of Spencer and Winnifred Peters Bell in Louisa County, he had been a farmer until his retirement in 1984. His marriage to Martha Duncan took place Oct. 14, 1941 in Kahoka, Mo. She died April 8, 1983. He was a member of the Columbus City Masonic Lodge No. 107 AS,AM, and the Kaaba Shrine and Davenport Consistry as well as a member of the congregation of the United Presbyterian Church of Columbus Junction. He is survived by two sons, Samuel of Columbus Junction and Michael of LeClaire and one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Nancy) McKean, Dunlop, Ill. there are seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Robertson, Columbus Junction, Mrs. Anita Bell of Muscatine and Mrs. Herbert (Mildred) Harbison Jr., of Moring Sun also survive him. He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister.

He was a 1933 graduate of Mount Union High School and served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1937 until 1941, and in the U.S. Navy until 1945, during World War II as Chief Yeoman. Mr. Gabeline farmed most of his life near Mount Union. He owned and operated Gage's Restaurant near Mount Union from 1972 to 1984 and worked at the Mustang Market for eight years and most recently helping his son, Wark, with farming in Mount Union. He attended First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant and Mount Pleasant Masonic Lodge No. 8, was past master of New London Mosonic Lodge 28 and past patron of Chapter 440 of the Order of the Eastern Star at New London. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory, KAABA Shrine, Legion of Honor at Davenport, the Optimist's Club, SACO, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7641. Survivors include two sons, George R. Gabeline of Rapid City, S.D., and Ward E. Gabeline of rural Burlington; one daughter, Donna J. Carroll of Montreal, Canada; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Florence Taylor of Janesville, Wis., Frances Tate of Green Valley, Ariz., and Elda Deffer of San Antonio, Texas. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday at the Weir funeral Home in Mount Pleasant where a Masonic and Order of Eastern Star service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday followed by the family receiving friends until 9 p.m. A memorial service for Mr. Gabeline will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. She was employed at the Mount Union Elevator in her earlier years and at the Wdinfield Farmers National Bank from 1961 unil 1986. She was a member of the Winfield Presbyterian Women, the Winfield TTT and the Winfield American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors inlude her husband; one son, Kerry Conard, Winfield; her mother, Mount Union; one brother, Dick Lauer, Mount Union; and one sister, Beverly Clifton, Bettendorf. The funeral for Mrs. Conard was held Saturday November 2, at the Winfield Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jim Edwards officiating. Burial was at the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Presbyterian Church, Hipe Haven and the Sunrise Terrace Auxiliary.

He worked for Linder Chevrolet in Morning Sun, drove a truck for his brother-in-law, hauled produce for Morning Sun Produce, delivered mail on rural routes, owned Sinclair Service Station and Cozy Cafe, until it closed, both in Morning Sun. He was a member of the former Church of God at Cairo and was baptized in Long Creek. He was a member of the United StatesTrotting Association and raised his own standard bred horses. He enjoyed baseball, and was a pitcher, as well as enjoying reading and playing cards. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Ann Ellen Brabbs of Cincinnati and Alethea K. LaMar of Palos Hills, Ill.; one son, Alfred Otis Sellers of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one sister and two brothers. The funeral for Mr. Sellers will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Morning Sun, with the Rev. Chris Thomas officiating. The body has been cremated. there will be a private family burial. The family will meet with friends following the funeral, where there will be a luncheon at the church. The son of S. B. and Daisy Lea Hook Matthews, he was born May 31, 1912 at Wapello. He married Margery F. Wilson on June 27, 1936 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa; she died May 13, 1989. Burt graduated from Wapello High School in 1929. He left the family farm east of Wapello in 1935 to work for Rukgaber Hardware until December 21, 1942 when he joined the Army. He served in the Pacific Theater during WWII for over 2 1/2 years and was discharged on January 11, 1946. He then ran the City Waterworks at Wapello until July 1, 1952. He was a partner in the Corner Grocery, cutting and running the meat department for 28 year, retiring in 1980. He then helped Cordell Hagele at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home for many years. He was a member of the Wapello Volunteer Fire Department for 28 years. He was a Charter member of the Wapello VFW Post 5166 as one of the original 18 members in January of 1946. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 112 of Morning Sun and a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello. Burt enjoyed his grandchildren and their activities, along with playing cards, billiards, golf and fishing. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy and David Tsivinsky of Marysville, California and Marcia and David Marlette of Wapello; four grandchildren, Krista and Kenny Marlette and James and Cathy Varvel; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Fannie Cross of Wapello; and two brothers, William H. She was born Jan. 26, 1917, at Duncanville, Ill. Her parents were the Rev. William Hunter Hemphill from County Antrim, Northern Ireland, and Ivy May Crozier, a teacher from Brownsville, Ill. She grew up in Illinois, Ohio, and Iowa, having graduated from Red Oak High School and Red Oak Junior College. She taught schools beginning in rural Washington Bounty, then Lone Tree, Oakville, Prairie Point, Huron, and Burlington for a total of 31 years and for 10 years was a substitute teacher. She met Stanley Schutt at Oakville and they were married August 18, 1943, at her mother's home in Ainsworth, Iowa. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women at Oakville. She taught an adult Sunday School Class for more than 40 years and was the choir director and the Sunday School superintendent for many years. Singing and church were very important parts of her life. She also was a member of the Louisa County Historical Society. During her retirement she served as the director for the Toolesboro Historical Indian Mounds facility. Survivors include her husband, Stanley; two sons, W. Wes Shutt of Oakville and Todd H. Shutt of Wapello; and five grandchildren, Dana, Deanna, Adam, Lindsey and Matt. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters. The funeral service for Amy Shutt was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at the United Methodist Church at Oakville with the Rev. Chris Thomas officiating. Music was provided by Elaine Swank as organist and John Zippe as vocalist. Burial followed at the Edwards Cemetery at Oakville. The pallbearers were Cody Grooms, John Ball, Ted Gerst, Paul Gustison, Bob Hemphill and Dave McCulley. Honarary attendants were Irene Gerst, Lee Siegle, Clara Wykert, Esther Brown, Katheryn Wykert, Elaine Swank and Joyce Staats.
