In 1876, Ella Peters married William H. Fairbanks in Fort Madison and they removed to Joplin, Missouri. She was not listed in the 1870 census for Fort Madison, which was not very big - about five or six pages in the Lee County enumeration. Can anyone familiar with the genealogical resources of that area suggest to this New Englander how to find out more about her and her family? (I've requested from I.L.L. the 1880 census to see if I can find any Peters families in that, but if there's more than one, I'm not much farther ahead!) My thanks for any help anyone can provide.
